Bollocks. MIL as a gift for DD, gave me an old toy wooden wheelbarrow, that had belonged to DH and FIL before him. The paint was flaky but with a bit of a paint job I thought it would be lovely for DD (23 months) to have a family heirloom toy to use.
So last week I started to scrape the flaking paint off the wheelbarrow ready to repaint and the paint looked a bit odd, silvery on the back of the yellow paint flakes. Hmmm, I thought, actually this is really old... should I worry about lead paint? I ordered a testing kit from Amazon and it turned bright red as soon as it came into contact with the paint which indicates toxic levels of lead.
I am still breastfeeding DD...what the hell was I thinking removing paint from 70 year old furniture! Any advice please on what to do, in terms of getting us tested for lead exposure and disposing of this wheelbarrow?
