I'll don my tin hat I don't understand anything about football at all despite listening to the news. So why is this new footie league a bad thing?

Basically it will become a rich mans game only and poor people can’t ever make it to the top in football as the super leagues 15 founders clubs can never ever loose.

I personally don’t care about it and a bit annoyed how the public has demanded a response and up in arms together about a sport when women walking the streets at night and being safe didn’t demand a massive response that came to the PM doing something about it.....because football is more important- obviously.

I still don't really get it either, and I read through some of the other thread last night.

If it's extra games on top of what is already there, why does that affect the other leagues?

and why has it all come up so suddenly? Was there no discussion or hints that it was happening? It sounds like yesterday was the first day anyone knew anything about it

@FlattestWhite because physically players can only play so many games.

It is an awful idea, I hope it is stopped.

oh ok, so it's not just extra games on top, it actually replaces games in the other leagues that they had been in? So they've effectively quit the other leagues to form this one?

My understanding is that the Super League (SL) will be a competition for the elite teams and will replace the Champion's League (CL)

Currently in England if a team in the Premier League (PL) finishes in the top four they will play in the CL next season

The SL will be a league which is not open to say West Ham. They could for example finish 2nd in the PL and in normal circumstances they would then play in the CL. The SL will be for only the elite, other teams can't get in!

I also think that managers will rest players from PL matches and field weaker teams then put the stronger team in the SL (happens in cup matches already). The PL will take a backseat

Teams can't be relegated from the SL either so once you're in, you're in. Very unfair on other teams like Leicester for example who are an excellent team

I can't see it happening with this much opposition

I doubt the Chanpions League will survive without these teams. Under this plan, only 5 other clubs with qualify each year from the whole of Europe (no idea how they will qualify either). It will just be an endless repeat of the top teams playing each other, no excitement at underdogs suddenly beating a top team.
