What does this shift pattern mean ?? Interviewing tomorrow.

‘Working a 5 in 7 shift pattern, on a 7 week rolling rota.’

Never worked in a warehouse before so don’t know what this means, job didn’t advertise the hours only the pay and the above info about the shifts.

I will obv ask in interview tomorrow but am acutely aware I’ve progressed to interview stage without actually knowing the hours, and I have two children who aren’t responsible enough to get themselves ready on time and walk to school yet (although they’re fine walking home).

Does that mean weekends one day, both days, occasional weekends, regular weekends, 3 different types of shift, and it all changes around every 7 weeks??

I would interpret that as 5 shifts in 7 days, on a rota which runs week 1 - 7 then starts again from week 1

Means I’d only get one whole weekend off every 2 months (roughly)

Because it could be one weekend in 2 or 3 or 4
I don't know the hours but a shift change can just be earlies or late shifts. So my shift changes every week but I only work one in three weekends

No, not necessarily. It means 5 days a week in a pattern that repeats every 7 weeks. Could be in that 7 weeks, there’s only 3 weekend shifts for example.

Best to ask for more info at interview.

I've done similar rotas and it means very few weekends off.

Or, ask if/when you’re offered the role.

Not necessarily. You can still request flexi working, so if you had a child you see every other weekend you could ask for every second week for your two days off to be together.

I used to work in a warehouse and while it might not be the same for all, they did try to get most days off as consecutive and include one weekend day.

It could be having Monday Tuesday off week one, Tuesday Wednesday off week two, Wednesday Thursday off week three, Thursday and Friday off week four, Friday Saturday off week six, Saturday Sunday off week seven. Then start again

Or it could be having Saturday Sunday off for six weeks and then every seventh week working the weekend and having Monday Tuesday off instead.

There’s probably a million combinations

It just means any 5 days of the 7, not necessarily in one go.

Warehouse hours around here usually tend to be 6-2, 2-10 and sometimes a night shift but I’d expect them to have stated if it night working was required

I have a friend that works that shift

Week one Mon - fri
Week two Tue- sat
Week 3 Wed- sun
And so on
So planning weekends with family can be a pain but but having week fays off maks it easier to get appointments ( docs / hair dresser/ dentist etc ) also work done on the house , and shopping when tbe shops are a bit quieter

And yes I’ve read the employee reviews on Glassdoor, Indeed etc and they’re horrific almost as bad as the company I’m leaving !
