My 3 year old is an absolute nightmares recently (I think due to me and his dad splitting up). His dad is very firm so ds is well behaved with him and sleeps brilliantly. Yet with me, he’s clingy, whiny, messes about at bed time - the usual “I want a hug, I want a teddy, ow my leg hurts” types of delay after I put him to bed and then he will wake up through the night shouting of me for stuff.
He has around 8 teddies on his bed/next to his bed and I think they are part of the problem as he will shout of me to come in and find one of them etc. But how do I remove all but one without him kicking up? I feel like ds is in charge here and not me!
When I put him to bed I close his gate and door and leave. Within seconds he’s at the gate shouting of me. I go in and he runs back to bed and asks to be covered up again, then asks for a specific teddy or a hug etc. Then I leave and then it starts all over again. Last night I had this for an hour.
If I do not go in his room he bangs the door against the wall or tries to climb over the cot.
Has anyone being in a similar situation and turned it around? If so, how?
I have him 70% of the time whilst working and I also suffer with depression and anxiety (on top of the separation with his dad) and this is just driving me to the edge now
Thanks
