Would your school (primary ) accept these shoes?

I had to buy these yesterday along with several other parents due to lack of options (3 shops tried) and huge queues at Clarks and unable to get to any other shops. Son's inside insole wore through rendering his current shoes super uncomfortable despite still looking ok. I'm hoping school don't say they're too trainer-ish as I can't afford to buy more and son was asked to make sure he got new shoes at weekend after he wore trainers on Friday. Help me have a polite response ready to say these are what he'll be wearing for a while ?

Surprised at all the comments saying that the schools wouldn't accept these. Ds is year 2 and those look pretty much like the standard boy shoe at his school even pre covid. He's been wearing similar for 2.5 years and its never been an issue.

LER83 · 19/04/2021 09:46

My 2 boys both wear either Nike or Adidas
trainers to school, as do most of the boys, so these would be fine. The only requirement is black with no coloured laces or obvious branding.

Why on earth would a primary school (where uniform isn't even legally enforceable anyway) have an issue with those shoes? Bloody hell Confused

midnightstar66 · 19/04/2021 09:48

They'd be fine at our school or any in our area. It would only cost a couple of quid to get nee insoles though or you could pinch them out of an old pair of shoes.

GameSetMatch · 19/04/2021 09:49

Yes they would at my sons school, they look fine to me.

MrsBDarcy · 19/04/2021 09:51

There have been shoes mine have worn before that are pretty similar tbh but I'm a worrier so wanted to gauge opinion.

Those would be fine at DS's school.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2021 09:56

I'm so glad my local schools don't give a crap about what shoes you wear. Makes no difference to your learning

steppemum · 19/04/2021 09:57

to be honest, if you get the call, I would say that in the middle of a pandemic, when the shops have been closed for 4 months, they are bloody lucky he isn't coming in in slippers.

I am normally in favour of uniform compliance, but really, right now, they are black. Tell them when these ones wear out you will buy better ones, as long as they are in the shops.

poorbuthappy · 19/04/2021 09:57

Fine at our old primary school because just black.

Allthegranola · 19/04/2021 09:59

Fine at my kids school, but they aren't strict with uniform at all.

Mishmased · 19/04/2021 10:00

My kids school will be a yes. He's in primary don't know if that makes a difference. I would say something along the lines of limited selection in kids shoes due to delivery issues so this is the best you can find for now.

Scrunchy95 · 19/04/2021 10:00

Yes at my son's school. Why not? They aren't trainers.

treeeeemendous · 19/04/2021 10:02

Primary yes, secondary no

EvilOnion · 19/04/2021 10:03

Yes. They look like sensible shoes for a primary child.

Thankfully our school aren't fussed about shoes so they can wear whatever as long as they've got black/grey trousers and school sweatshirt my eldest wears plain black leather trainers to secondary and never had comments either.

We're in Scotland though, not sure if that makes a difference, and I've never heard of anyone being pulled up on shoes with the exception of strict private schools.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/04/2021 10:03

I doubt the school would notice as they are black.

Mine wore tan leather boots for several weeks while I tried to find new black shoes in November.
(Which she wore until the Christmas holidays...and had outgrown by March!).

IndecentFeminist · 19/04/2021 10:04

Yes, any shoes as long as they are sensible/comfortable and as black as possible/all black.

They'd be fine

TokyoSushi · 19/04/2021 10:06

Our would, but our uniform policy is very, very lax.

TeenMinusTests · 19/04/2021 10:08

Primary yes, secondary no.
I'd also hope that this term schools would show some degree of flexibility/common sense.

springisintheair2021 · 19/04/2021 10:10

Sainsbury's have got lots of black school leather shoes in many sizes for under £20 this morning

playeddepaler · 19/04/2021 10:13

Yes but then again my dc's school would also accept these...that's why I love my DC's school, they literally are not bothered about what they are wearing!

Would your school (primary ) accept these shoes?
Triffid1 · 19/04/2021 10:16

My word, where do your DC all go to school that those wouldn't be okay? I'd say that 90% of the boys wear school shoes of this sort at our school. They're not allowed to wear actual trainers ie canvas style, but these are considered a good choice as the kids can run and play and all the rest. I just wish the school would encourage similar styles for girls (most of whom basically wear ballet slippers and it drives me mad.)>

Blindstupid · 19/04/2021 10:19

It doesn’t matter how many other schools would accept these shoes .... it’s only your school that matters.

Fwiw - I think they’re ok and acceptable. But again, my opinion (and everyone else’s) doesn’t count in this situation Wink

sashh · 19/04/2021 10:25

Primary school uniform is not compulsory so if you get the call tell them that.

There are, however, health and safety considerations, so a child in stilettoes could be sent home.

I doubt they could claim a breach of H and S for those.
