Can I watch this series of Line of Duty without ever having watched it before?

Have never watched L of D before, but everyone is talking about it and I'm getting major FOMO. But I don't really want to watch 5 other series to catch up, and I don't even know if they are still available to watch.

Can I just start watching this series or will there be too many storylines that I don't understand, are they stand alone series or does each series go to the next?

Thanks!

No. It's all linked. Watch the series it's worth it!

MazekeenSmith · 18/04/2021 22:34

They are all available on iPlayer. It would be really confusing if you don't and I don't know why you
Wouldn't want to start at the beginning if you have FOMO!

RosieGirl27 · 18/04/2021 22:35

No, you need to watch it from the beginning. It’s all on iPlayer and all worth the watch!

Of course you could, but bear in mind that those of us who re-watched the previous series during this latest lockdown still spend most of it in a state of confusion 😆

Northernsoullover · 18/04/2021 22:38

Omg you have to watch them all. You would struggle to keep up AND you would deprive yourself of such wondrous viewing. You could probably do them all in 3 days. You might have to go without a bit of sleep but its worth it.
I did the first four series in around 2 days.

Duvetdweller · 18/04/2021 22:39

I’ve watched them all and I’m stil utterly baffled

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 18/04/2021 22:40

Thanks! OK, so watch from the beginning it is!

I've watched this series having not watched the others. I've just about managed to get the basic gist of it, but I have no idea who all these characters are they keep referring to Grin it's been worth watching it as I had massive FOMO about it too.

I think if you've already missed 8 episodes, I would just start from the beginning and binge it now.

I'm waiting for this series to finish then I'll binge it all to try make some sense of it all!

Ontheboardwalk · 18/04/2021 22:44

Nope. Have a good binge watch of the previous series

Tronkmanton · 18/04/2021 23:00

No. The letter of the law is that you have to watch them all Grin

BlackCatsRule88 · 18/04/2021 23:03

Watch them all. I’m very jealous that you get to enjoy them for the first time and you can watch all in one go!

fizbosshoes · 18/04/2021 23:06

I started watching from series one episode 1 with teen DD at the beginning of the easter hols - we only watch one episode/eve so were just starting series 4. It's been worth recapping so far

TheKeatingFive · 18/04/2021 23:11

God no. Watch from the start and enjoy every minute. Series 2&3 are particularly amazing.

Ellenthegenerous · 18/04/2021 23:17

Mother of God Fella! You have to watch them all from the beginning. Then you’ll be sucking diesel.

Mate, you're cooking with gas tonight!

There’s only one thing we’re interested in - and that’s bent coppers.

To understand said bent coppers, you need to start your line of enquiry right from the beginning.

As others have said, am rather jealous that you get to watch it all in one go from the start. I have been rewatching from the start this week and am now back up to season 4 - so much I’d forgotten!

Seasons 1-4 are great. Season 5 was a bit “meh” for me, but the latest season has definitely got its mojo back!

Just be careful with googling stuff given how long it’s been running. I made this mistake with starting GoT very late. I’d google a character if I wasn’t sure where they fitted in, only to find out spoilers really quickly!

Oh, and avoid SM as there were a couple of big spoilers this week! Hope they don’t make the same mistake again.

Jobsharenightmare · 19/04/2021 06:15

I'm watching this season only and enjoying it.

Agreed. I couldn’t get into the first season but 2 and 3 were fantastic. Dh and I are on season 5 now.
fizbosshoes · 19/04/2021 09:16

I thought I'd watched them all. Kelly Hawes was amazing in series 2....but somehow I missed series 3 (or erased from mind) so glad I have now caught up.
Having reached series 1 it seemed so much simpler to understand when you hadnt got all the threads from previous series to keep hold of!

fizbosshoes · 19/04/2021 09:17
  • Keely Hawes I do know her name - silly auto correct!
bellsbuss · 19/04/2021 09:19

No , I watched all of them back to back twice and still get confused about who is who Confused

LindaEllen · 19/04/2021 09:25

There aren't that many episodes in a series. If you have time and enjoy binging you could get up to date quite quickly. But you definitely need to know what's going on. It's confusing enough when you HAVE watched them all, haha.

Furries · 19/04/2021 11:06

@LindaEllen don’t you mean “definately” 🤣
