Long story short: previous pregnancy terminated due to multiple heart defects one being severe cardiomyopathy.
DS has had a bad infection which resulted in lots of tests including a chest X-ray which found an enlarged heart. However when I mentioned that he had had a heart scan last year as a follow up from previous pregnancy, the doctor was immediately reassured and said in that case no real concern. She said to mention to our cardiac nurse just because it’s of note but that was it - she wasn’t worried because he’s a good weight and otherwise completely healthy with no other symptoms.
I’ve been stewing on it since (haven’t been able to get hold of cardiac nurse yet) as I don’t understand how a heart scan last year could rule out anything sinister? Surely his heart could have enlarged since then? We don’t have another appointment with the heart clinic til Christmas this year as he’s not seen as a risk, it’s just the process after our previous history.
I made the mistake of googling and am now beside myself and convinced he has a serious heart condition and will die young 😠as since my previous pregnancy this one of my major fears.
Can anyone who is an expert in the field reassure me that the doctor was correct not to be worried? I can speak to our cardiac nurse from Wednesday onwards but know I’ll drive myself mad until then.
She said because he’s a good weight it could be that causing it or it might be one of those things, but as long as the scan previously showed his heart functioning normally she’s not worried.
