I've never seen Jaws. I don't like horror films. Is Jaws scary?

No, the close ups of injuries and sudden shark attacks might make you a bit urgh and the maggotty head isn't pleasant but it's very dated now. What sort of films do you like.

DramaAlpaca · 18/04/2021 17:04

I haven't seen it since it came out when I was a young teenager and yes, I found it scary

RuggeryBuggery · 18/04/2021 17:07

I think it’s a PG isn’t it? I watched it with the kids recently and was slightly surprised it was only a PG, would’ve put it as a 12 myself. I thought it was a bit scary/gory in places but you can kind of see it coming

Doyoumind · 18/04/2021 17:08

I think so. Maybe it's because it scared me as a child.

OhWhyNot · 18/04/2021 17:08

Yes I think there are what my ds calls Juno scares

Yes I am more wary of swimming in the sea in some areas

Brilliant film not scary like The Shinning but certainly has suspense

BrownEyedGirl80 · 18/04/2021 17:10

No not imo.Ds 7 has seen it and it didn't bother him in the slightest.

kirinm · 18/04/2021 17:10

It's one of the best films ever made. It's not a horror film, more suspense than anything. It has obviously aged so the shark itself doesn't look entirely convincing at times but it's a brilliant film.

Carryonlikeaporkchop · 18/04/2021 17:13

Saw it many, many years ago and it scared the crap out of me.

The journey home involved a short ferry ride - I have never been so glad to get off a boat as I was that night!

OhWhyNot · 18/04/2021 17:17

Jump scares ...

Not Juno scares

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/04/2021 17:19

More graphic than scary

sadonfriday · 18/04/2021 17:19

It’s my best film in the world ever

toffeebutterpopcorn · 18/04/2021 17:20

No - we watched it with ds when he was about 11. He never likes horror and only went ‘awwwwwwww’ when the shark spat out a dog collar (people eaten, ok - but not a dog!)

Completely agree! It's my favorite film.
Mrsmchammer · 18/04/2021 17:38

It isn't scary but it is very clever. I've only watched it in recent years and did enjoy it.

x2boys · 18/04/2021 17:48

I watched with my son when he was about 11 he didn't find it scary,it did make me laugh though when there was a scene with an old fashioned type writer and my son asked how the deleted words ,I had to explain about liquid paper😂

It's a 12a according to bbfc
Frezia · 18/04/2021 17:57

It's best watched while on a beach holiday, it does make you think twice about getting in the sea the next day Grin

HerBigChance · 18/04/2021 18:02

It's more the anticipation that's scary - the underwater scenes from the shark's view as it looms along, with the tinkling music and shafts of sunlight from above, that builds into the truly scary music....

MargaretThursday · 18/04/2021 18:07

I've never seen it. However my db watched Flipper the friendly dolphin and announced he'd seen Jaws and it was really scary. Grin

LudoBear · 18/04/2021 18:10

Thanks. I'll give it a go! I watched the shining last year and didn't find it scary but I knew what to expect with the twins etc
