Hampton in Arden, Nuthall & Thorne... where to stop?

Travelling from Hereford area to Brimington on Monday. Two adults, 5 month old chihuahua puppy, no children. Planning on 3 stops for leg stretch, toilets etc.

"Whats half way" website says the above places are a 3rd of the way each. Suggestions on places to stop for half hour or so?

If you leave the m42 at J5 (solihull) there is a nice park just off the junction, called Brueton Park, with a lake if you wanted to stretch your legs and wander round? There’s somewhere to get a coffee too

SnugglySnerd · 18/04/2021 06:50

I agree with Brueton park and it is signposted after you leave the motorway. There is nothing much to do at Hampton, it is just a quiet village. If you stayed on the M42 a couple more junctions you could stop at Kingsbury Water Park although you do have to pay for parking there, I think it is £4.

Hampton in Arden is lovely. There are a couple pubs, park and a small shop. It depends what you need really.

Clymene · 18/04/2021 06:52

3 stops? It's only going to take you about an hour and a half to get there isn't it? Grin

Bythemillpond · 18/04/2021 06:57

It has to be only about 70 - 80 miles. Why are you stopping.
It will take only 60-90 minutes at the most.

Why the need to stop 3 times every 20 - 30 miles or 20 - 30 minutes driving

Bythemillpond · 18/04/2021 06:58

Just looked it up. It is 67.8 miles

DappledThings · 18/04/2021 07:21

More like 135 miles. Have people misread Brimington for Birmingham?

Still nowhere near long enough to bother stopnthat many times. I would only stop once in that journey if I had tiny DC who needed to get out of their car seats. Maybe a quick loo break if I got caught short.

Bythemillpond · 18/04/2021 07:25

Maybe once at a motorway service station for the dog more than for the humans otherwise it is still stopping every 40 minutes to stop 3 times

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/04/2021 07:26

Why 3 stops?! I used to live in central Birmingham and travelled to Hereford each wednesday. It took 1hr 30ish. Surely just one stop for the puppy?

It doesn't say Birmingham!
Clymene · 18/04/2021 07:43

Ha - I also read it as Birmingham! Grin Have never heard of Brimington.

Still that's 2.5 hours at most. I'd think one stop is enough isn't it?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/04/2021 08:51

Oh yeah! Sorry OP.

LudoBear · 18/04/2021 10:49

Oh bloody hell. Its Bridlington we are going!!!

Never heard of Brimington either haha.

BRIDLINGTON is 3.5 hours.

Hereford to Bridlington right?
Just stop at normal services. Any more and your journey will take 8 hours.
Suggest pause at Tamworth services on the A42 and then somewhere around Goole.

NotMeNoNo · 18/04/2021 11:01

We would only bother with full on off-motorway stops if it was an 8hr plus drive.

NotMeNoNo · 18/04/2021 11:06

Just to say, Brueton park is a good call, but the slowest leg of the journey will be the A road section after you leave the M62 at Goole so I'd fuel up with coffee at that point.

CornishGem1975 · 18/04/2021 11:16

Agree, just stop at the services and get out for a wee, stretch your legs there, but if I were going to stop I wouldn't stop that side of Birmingham, Hampton in Arden is only 1.5 hours into your journey, max. I'd stop nearer Derby.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 18/04/2021 11:20

With a young puppy she will need to stop more than that for toileting.
Bythemillpond · 18/04/2021 11:22

Why do you need to plan. Stop on the motorway at the service stations when you feel like it. Even Bridlington I wouldn’t have thought you would stop more than once. Maybe puppy might need a couple of stops but 3 for anywhere in the U.K. is overkill.

NotMeNoNo · 18/04/2021 11:27

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda of course but a puppy can do their business in a quick stop at service areas, they normally have quite a bit of landscaping. You don't need a park each time.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 18/04/2021 11:31

I went to Hampton for a business meeting on Friday and nothing was open. The pub was opening for the weekend but didn’t have week day opening times yet, and the cafe had a long queue but was takeaway only and you can’t access the toilets...

Thorne is lovely but I haven’t been in ages. It’s lovely to stroll around!

But I’d most likely just use service stops for the dog and leg stretching rather than coming off the motorway constantly, if I’m honest... especially as traffic is getting back to normal levels.

SnugglySnerd · 18/04/2021 15:13

With small dcs I would much rather stop at a park than services!

CornishGem1975 · 18/04/2021 16:57

OP isn't going with any children.

SnugglySnerd · 18/04/2021 17:03

Oops! I managed not to read "Birmingham" in the title but clearly missed that bit. To be honest though I avoid motorway services even when on my own!
