How do you pronounce neither & either? I say ee-ther but neither so the start would ryhme with pie, is it weird to pronounce them differently considering they are so similar?

Just a random musing Grin

I'm pretty sure I say ee for both now, but when I was younger I used to switch between both pronunciations depending on context. Note I have no idea what that context was Grin

Oh. Just before pressing post I realised I say 'me nee-ther' but 'NIE-ther do I' Confused

I have also pondered this recently. I prefer Eye-ther/nye-ther so that it fits the "i before e, except after c, when the sound is ee" rule 😁

sanityisamyth · 16/04/2021 18:56

Nye-ther

Everyday21 · 16/04/2021 18:57

I use the ee sound for both

Reinventinganna · 16/04/2021 19:01

To rhyme with bye

EscapeDragon · 16/04/2021 19:10

I use both I think, depending on the surrounding words in the sentence. It just happens.

"Eye-ther that one or the other one."

"No, me nee-ther."
