Has anyone had a dc referred to speech therapy for a stammer?

Just wondering if anyone could let us know what to expect. Dd is 8 and her stammer is quite pronounced, seems to be worsening rather than improving with age and a referral has been made to speech and language therapy from school.

I paid a private speech therapist for DS’s stammer when he was 7.
Google ‘Lidcombe’ speech therapy op - it is designed specifically for a stammer.
DS had fortnightly therapy for about 6 months and then his stammer completely stopped. He is a teen now and it has never been a problem since.

Thank you, that is really reassuring. I will Google Lidcombe now.

Yes, my son was allocated three sessions. The entire first session was spent discussing how he felt about his stammer! The other sessions were more useful in terms of strategies to try. Fortunately, the stammer gradually improved and he doesn't stammer at all now. Wishing your dd good luck with her treatment.
