My Dd is in bottom class of math, she’s been promised to be moved up but hasn’t yet. We have spent hours and hours after school doing maths work, books etc. Her dad (a* student) has put so much effort in with her and home she’s done amazing. She’s grown massively in confidence after a teacher embarrassed her for not knowing all her times tables in primary. She obviously does now.

What she wants to do after school she needs a c/4.

I don’t know what to do. Do I get a private maths tutor? I’m so proud at how well she’s doing but I feel like this is going to completely knock her confidence. Especially when ds11 is years above in maths and is “gifted” (teachers words..).

Ahhh!

Can you afford a tutor? One to one is massively more useful than her having to go at the same pace as 30 other kids. Or pay for an online programme and get her to do 20 mins every day?

Have you had a conversation with school to ask what they are doing to help her improve? I would start there to be honest.

Well there's quite a long time before she sits her GCSEs and it's not the end of year 8, it's 2/3rds through.

My DS started year 9 with a 2- and now he's a 4+ so they can make a lot of progress in a short space of time.
