How fast can a hearse go?

Random question I know, but just pondering (nothing to do with Prince P, or any family member) - what happens if you have a funeral service in one county and burial in another (eg if you had a burial plot but then moved house and attended a local church.) once the funeral is finished, can the hearse and chief mourners travel at speed limits on motorways or would you have to travel at the lowest safe speed? When DF died, he was brought back home in a private ambulance as he had died at quite a distance. I've certainly seen them at 70mph on the motorway.

I work for a funeral directors and we can drive at whatever speed the road limits are, however we are taught to be cautious and respectful at all times, we actually all have to take a professional driving test to be able to drive each vehicle. We tend to go slower with a cortège so everyone can stay together and I probably wouldn’t be happy flying down the motorway at 70mph with someone in my care either in the hearse or ambulance. I would stick to the slow lane with the lorries

Hearses drive at normal speeds when they've lost their 'cargo'

Utterly brilliant. I like your thinking.

Top Gear special with a last lap of nurburgring for and with Sabine Schmitz springs to mind.

Strangely hilarious thread op Grin

Princess Di moving at a"respectful but motorway appropriate speed "...

I’ve attended funerals where the funeral mass was half a country away from the burial ground, several hours’ drive. The hearse drives at the normal speed appropriate to the road/speed limit etc.
