Hi. Need a bit of a handhold. Currently in hospital with DS (1). We are awaiting some results of some tests but they aren’t sure what is wrong with him. Doctors and nurses have been fab but I’m feeling a little shaken. DS will only sleep on me so going to be a long night. So please distract me with some chat- anything- just don’t want to think for a while.

Sorry to hear this. Hope you can get a bit of rest. X

ineedaholidaynow · 15/04/2021 00:31

Here for a handhold

BritInAus · 15/04/2021 00:32

Sorry to hear, and sending positive vibes to you all and hope you get results soon and can get home asap.

Have you had something to drink and eat?

@Bluebutterfly2
Bless you - sending a big virtual hug 🤗
Hopefully you won't be waiting too kind poor little one.
Try to make some lists - always a good distraction xx

AcornAutumn · 15/04/2021 00:33

Sorry to hear that

Want to hear a crappy joke?

HEYBritneyAreYouReadyy · 15/04/2021 00:34

Another hand hold here. Is he your first child??

KarensChoppyBob · 15/04/2021 00:39

Aw OP. Been there, including the only sleeping on you bit.

Holding your hand.

Let us know how you get on.

Bluebutterfly2 · 15/04/2021 00:40

Thanks everyone.

Staff are great and keep offering me a hot drink but I don’t drink tea or coffee. I’m happy with water. Husband was able to drop off some food for me to as this has all happened over dinner time but not really hungry tbh. DS is sound asleep on me after screaming for an hour when they did his bloods and cannula. He is difficult stick.

So far I’ve listened to two podcasts and caught up on my emails.

Yes I’d love to hear a crappy joke.

KarensChoppyBob · 15/04/2021 00:41

Have you got any basic games you can play on your phone while he sleeps?

Monopoly got me through a few anxious times.

Bluebutterfly2 · 15/04/2021 00:44

Yes he is my first. He has been in hospital once before but as a tiny baby and we knew why he was unwell. This time they are unsure what has caused his symptoms.

I do love the sleepy cuddles but it is so much easier at home in our bed. He does sleep well in his cot normally so sleepy cuddles are rare.

I've still not gotten into podcasts, really must give them a go. Any good recommendations?

BritInAus · 15/04/2021 00:48

Glad you have some food there. Do you have a phone charger too?
Hopefully it won't be too long a wait.
Perhaps an easy game on your phone - Words with Friends or similar?

AcornAutumn · 15/04/2021 00:48

Crappy joke ...

What do you call a deer with no "i"s?

Correctly spelt! 😂

Or the best one to pull out at work...if someone says "there's no i in team" reply with "and there's no f in way". 😁

flapjackfairy · 15/04/2021 00:49

@Bluebutterfly2
I will join you. My son is having continual seizures and not responding to meds so might have to call an ambulance and get him in. It will be second time in a week. It never gets any easier . The nights feel so long. I always carry earplugs with me just in case and try to at least doze if I can though I know it is not easy.
Mumsnet has got me through many a long night on a ward I an tell you .
Do you know when the blood results are likely to come back ? Try not too worry too much children are resilient things x

AcornAutumn · 15/04/2021 00:51

My poor parents had some nights in A&E with me being mysteriously ill just for the night and then I was fine. Hopefully your DS will be the same Flowers

BritInAus · 15/04/2021 00:59

Yes, it's highly likely it will be 'one of those things' and hopefully you'll be home soon. Many of my friends spent a night in hospital with a mysterious illness, usually no clearer than 'something viral' before being sent home, exhausted!

QueenPaw · 15/04/2021 01:02

I love the double cleanse podcast (skin/makeup)

For light entertainment, my cat was sat outside minding his own business this week when a small child toddled over, yelled "CAT" and sat down next to him. My cat was ShockShock and sat very patiently while child patted him and examined his paws and tail Grin He then ran inside and slept for 3hrs in exhaustion after giving me a face of "no children thank you"
(I don't have DC and he's so patient with children thankfully!)

Bluebutterfly2 · 15/04/2021 01:06

Thanks. Doctor just been back- one of his infection markers is slightly elevated but the other is normal. Everything else normal. He has had his first dose of antibiotics but very much still a mystery. There is a plan in place though, I feel reassured and that they are monitoring him for now.

Yep- phone charger etc here. DH brought us up a bag of things but I do carry a charger anyway as my phone battery is so crappy. He did forget my headphones though- luckily we are in a bay by ourselves.

Podcast wise- pretty boring choices on my part but I listen to today in focus from the guardian, then there is a new one by the team behind serial called the improvement association.

@flapjackfairy I’m sorry. Sending you a handhold back and hope you LO is ok.

OP posts:
flapjackfairy · 15/04/2021 01:10

Well the infection markers being low sounds promising. Hopefully a few days of antibiotics will do the trick x

Bluebutterfly2 · 15/04/2021 01:14

@QueenPaw oh that is lovely. My DS loves our cat. She isn’t really a lap cat and had only ever been cuddly with me. Not DH or any visitors but she is brilliant with him. Let’s him stroke her even though gentle isn’t quite a concept she understands yet. I had thought I would have to keep him away from her but she actively seeks him out.

Yes hoping it is one of those things- he’s had weird viral things before and bloods being reassuring is pointing that way.

Try lockdown parenting
Or two pints with will and rafe .
Or go on bbc sounds and work your way through what ever takes your fancy.

Enough4me · 15/04/2021 01:24

I went into hospital suddenly with my DD years ago when she had a weird disorder called HSP, Heinlin Schlolein Purpura (I think it was called). Capillary blood vessels were bleeding under her skin and I was told her kidneys could be damaged. It was awful and exhausting, but came to nothing (months of tests & she couldn't join in PE for a while). I hope all passes for you too and all better soon and this becomes a memory Flowers

Bluebutterfly2 · 15/04/2021 02:21

We’ve been moved into a side room and I have a bed. He has settled in the cot so I’m going to try and get some sleep

Thank you for your kind messages and wishes. It has helped and I’m now listening to lockdown parenting to sooth me off to sleep.

Bluebutterfly2 · 15/04/2021 18:38

Hi all. Just wanted to update you. They are none the wiser as to the cause of his symptoms but he is improving. We’ve been allowed home with a review with them tomorrow. They’ve told me we may not ever get to the bottom of it but have sent off more tests. Hopefully they will come back clear, he continues to get better and it is just a one off unexplained thing. Thank you all for your messages.
