What's the most weddings you have gone to in a year?

I am watching some rom com film called The Wedding Year and they have been invited to 15 weddings in one year. It's got me thinking what the most I have ever gone to is.

I think the busiest year we had is 5 but we have had a couple of years like that. Pre Covid it was kind of normal to have a 2-3 a year. I like it, so much fun but I also don't mind reusing dresses and outfits and don't go too crazy on the gifts. I think for some other people it could get really expensive!

What's the most you have gone to in a year and how did you cope?!

We had twelve in a year once. It was hard work!

FartleBarfle · 14/04/2021 20:48

@ChelseaCat wow! That's crazy! Were they evenly spread or did you have a couple of crazy months?

Two. One of them was just seven people though.

We had a year of 13! It was very expensive and as lots of them were from the same group of friends I couldn’t even get away with recycling outfits.

Chiarandella · 14/04/2021 20:53

2019- I went to 10. It was hideous. I was single and there was no sign of anyone being remotely interested in me, which every other bugger was proclaiming that they had found The One.

It was also hideously expensive. I reused outfits, shoes, bags etc but I still had to make it to the venues and fork out for a gift.

FartleBarfle · 14/04/2021 21:29

@Chiarandella wow I can imagine that would have been hard to tackle being single! I once went to a small wedding and I was the only single adult... You can guess where they sat me?! That's right, the kids table! The waiter was reluctant to give me any wine at first before they realised! Confused

I've only been to 2 weddings in my entire life. Literally none of my friends are married yet, we are all late 20s-early 30s.

I had exactly the same first worldproblem.

We had a crazy couple of months with a light peppering either side!!

Strike through fail 🙄

FartleBarfle · 14/04/2021 21:45

@Waxonwaxoff0 you might be due a tidal wave in a couple of years....

10 one year. We were very bored of weddings by the end (oh and I had to turn down lots of hen dos as I worked Saturdays at that point and couldn’t take enough off).

mamalovebird · 14/04/2021 21:49

The year I got married, we had 7 in the year, one a month from Apr-Oct. Was relentless and really expensive!!

bathorshower · 14/04/2021 21:52

I think it's 6 - when DD was small, to make it more 'interesting'. She only replied to 'do you know any just cause or impediment why x and y may not marry' once.... I wore the same dress to all of them (as did a number of our friends). Two were family weddings, and the rest were in our home town (or nearby) which really helped with the cost and time, so it felt OK.

DelurkingAJ · 14/04/2021 21:55

My friends were very considerate and got married at the rate of about five a year for about six years! I love weddings and I’m kind of sad that it’s mainly family weddings really from now.

EventuallyDistracted · 14/04/2021 21:56

When I was in my late 20s / early 30s it seemed to be non-stop weddings, but that was quite a long time ago and I'm not sure what the most in one year was (I reckon I've been to about 35 in total).

There was one August when I went to three on consecutive weekends in London, Bristol and rural Ireland, that was an expensive and busy month.

merryhouse · 14/04/2021 21:57

Three, including my own. Had two summers with two each.

We had at least one wedding every year for eight years so I thought I was doing quite well; but it seems I don't have that many friends... Grin

EventuallyDistracted · 14/04/2021 21:58

Oh and I managed two in one day once (one didn't have an evening do and I was only invited to the evening do of the other one luckily they were fairly close locations).

TawnyPippit · 14/04/2021 22:00

We did 3 in 4 weeks once. That was a busy month!

TerribleCustomerCervix · 14/04/2021 22:01

We’ve had one every year except 2020. DH is from a massive family and his cousins are all starting to settle down, but thankfully they seem to have an unspoken agreement that everyone gets a “wedding year”, which is much easier on our pockets!

I don’t understand how previous posters could have that massive a group of friends that they’d get invited to 13 in a year! The cost of that must be incredible.

KitKatBunny · 14/04/2021 22:02

I think about 6. We only have 1 this year (hopefully going ahead) and then I think most of our friends will be married. I do love a wedding but I will be happy to no longer have loads in a year and all the hen does etc that goes with it. I think I'm getting grumpy in my old age Grin

Lifeisnotadressrehearsal7 · 14/04/2021 22:03

I can’t remember but nowhere near 15!

tunnocksreturns2019 · 14/04/2021 22:05

Seven in one year, but three in one weekend that year! A Friday, a Saturday and a Sunday. Thankfully the Monday after was a bank holiday so we could recover...

Snog · 14/04/2021 22:05

I always refuse the evening only invites which cuts it down a fair bit.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 14/04/2021 22:07

I think I'm getting grumpy in my old age grin

You’re not grumpy, it’s just a big taboo to admit that 90% of weddings are arse numbingly dull to most guests outside of the couple’s inner circle.

MargaretThursday · 14/04/2021 22:09

We had two years running where we had 8, almost all over the summer.
