Bedtime for under 10's?

OnYourLeft4 · 14/04/2021 20:03

I've always put my children to bed at 7pm they are 7 and 9 now and have told me that their friends stay up until 8pm.

What times do your children go to bed? I haven't got any Mum friends so thought I would jump on here and see if I should allow them to stay up a bit later.

Don't think mine were ever in bed as early as 7pm. Probably more like 8pm. Although now they're teenagers and I need to chase them to bed when I go

Libelula21 · 14/04/2021 20:05

It’s 8pm and my 4 year old is still up. :-/ Very well done keeping them to 7pm for so long.
Maybe move to 7.30 and see how that goes?

mamalovebird · 14/04/2021 20:07

My DD is nearly 8 and goes to bed between 8-8.30pm. My DS is 11 and goes to bed between 9-9.30pm. Although on nights they are really tired, they go earlier and weekends tend to be a bit later.

At 9 mine went to bed at 8:30pm

It's depends on when they get up and what their routine is though. Some kids needs more sleep than others.

What other people do isn't really important; take your lead from your children and see what they need.

8.30 for 8 and 11 year old. Was 8 till recently. 11 yr old reads for as long as he likes but usually asleep by 9.30.

Mylittlepony374 · 14/04/2021 20:10

4 year old here goes at 8pm.

Equimum · 14/04/2021 20:12

During term time, my 5 year old goes to bed at 7, has stories and the light goes out by 7.30 (he’s usually asleep very soon after).

My 8 year old goes to bed around 7.30, but we read to him, then he reads until 8.15-8.30ish. He struggles to settle, but this method means he’s usually asleep well before 9.

ImFree2doasiwant · 14/04/2021 20:13

My 4 and 5 yrold go at 8. Id love for them to go at 7 but its just not practical for us especially in spring/summer.

What time do they get up? Do they fall asleep quickly?

Ilovechoc12 · 14/04/2021 20:13

Holidays - 8:45 / 9 onwards (6,7,8,9 year old) but they do stay in bed in the morning ....

School time 7:30 with exception of 9 yr old 8:30 plus they all read 30/40 mins once they have gone to bed x

Thesearmsofmine · 14/04/2021 20:15

Mine are in bed by 9pm(10.8 and 5). They go upstairs at around 8pm, have some quiet play before getting into bed and reading.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 14/04/2021 20:17

8 year old - 8:30 on a school night and 9:30 at weekends/school holidays

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/04/2021 20:19

8&9yos. 8pm bedtime.
Unless they are at club that finishes at 8pm, then they go to bed after they get home and have supper.

GreenLentilCurry · 14/04/2021 20:20

9 year old about 10.30! I can’t imagine him going to bed at 7!!

PaperMonster · 14/04/2021 20:23

Mine’s 9. She goes to bed about 9ish and reads for an hour. She’s up for 7-7.30am-ish.

Chocaholics · 14/04/2021 20:26

8 year old at 8:15pm and 10 year old at 8:30pm. They often then listen to 15 minutes of an audio book with the lights out.

Ginger1982 · 14/04/2021 20:27

7pm is quite early for those ages. My DS is 4 and goes to bed 7/7.30pm. I would have said 8pm isn't unreasonable.

NauseousNancy · 14/04/2021 20:28

8 year old goes up to bed around 9 on a school night, sometimes reads for a bit, pretty much always asleep by 10.

Weekends normally closer to 10 she goes up, but usually then just lights out and goes to sleep.

Any earlier and she wouldn’t sleep and would just be up and down stairs constantly. Still awake at 7 on the button!

NauseousNancy · 14/04/2021 20:30

3 year old is usually asleep by 8pm, normally goes into bed at 7.30 and ‘reads’ to herself.

Tiredmum100 · 14/04/2021 20:30

My dc are 7 and 9. They are in bed now! They go at 8 pm week days. Dc1 (9 year old) is up early, around 6-6.30 and dc 2 is up around 7-7.30. He needs more sleep. Dc1 just told me he hates the time and really its only 7 pm as the clocks haven't long changed 🙄. He would go to bed at 10 if we left him. They do go later on the weekend, 9-9.30 PM ish.

Bimblybomeyelash · 14/04/2021 20:30

My 7 nearly 8 year old goes upstairs at 7:30.

My 5 year old goes upstairs before 7, but these lighter nights are making that increasingly harder! But I can’t push him too much later because then my older one would be later too, and I need some time to myself !

RainingZen · 14/04/2021 20:31

Ar age 9 bedtime was 8.30 pm

MarcelineMissouri · 14/04/2021 20:31

Gosh that does sound early to me!
My 6 year olds goes up at 7:30 in term time, 9 year old follows at 8:30.

RedSoloCup · 14/04/2021 20:32

My 10yo 9pm school nights 10:30 weekends!! She has much older siblings and I'm sure they went much earlier but she doesn't need anymore sleep 💤

Howmanysleepsnow · 14/04/2021 20:32

7yo 7.45 (option to read, but generally sleeps by 8-8.15)
9yo 8.00 (reads until 8.30-9)
Both might stay up until 8.30 if we’re doing something (longer dog walk, bbq etc) or in holidays.

Bagelsandbrie · 14/04/2021 20:33

My nearly 9 year old goes to bed at 9pm - same weekdays and weekends, although occasionally a bit later on a weekend if we do something / go out etc.
