Anyone done this in the UK? Where would you recommend? Any tips?

We stayed at theme parks in the US and really enjoyed it when we lived there.

I’ve stayed in the hotel at Alton towers, it was fine, kids enjoyed it

TrevorWithTheWeather · 14/04/2021 23:19

We've stayed at the CBeebies hotel at Alton towers. DS was 2, and had an absolute blast. It was brilliant!

Chessington, really nice hotel and great bar area where kids can play near monkeys and you can have a drink. All totally safe.

SailingBuddy · 14/04/2021 23:25

I wanted to do this for my kids as a treat for them and us but I couldn’t believe the price of the hotel at Legoland. Not even the fancy castle one!
The cheapest Sat night was over £400 for 4 of us in one room! And over the bank holiday it was £650! For one night!
You could do 2/3 nights in Disneyland in Paris for that (if you could get there!)

We stayed in the Alton Towers water park one. It wasn’t the cleanest and it was quite busy but the kids loved it and have good memories. I’d consider doing it again.

DC loved Thomasland and the hotel when they were 3.

Flamingoland in North Yorkshire or Alton Towers are both good

RainingZen · 15/04/2021 01:53

We stayed in the Alton towers hotel, it was convenient and DD1 loved it. But it is very overpriced, a bit dirty/shabby, the breakfast was not good quality (although lots of it, at least), and it was soooooo noisy with kids charging up and down the corridors make g loads of noise til after 10pm. Definitely won't repeat that, but it was okay for a one-off and we had an amazing two days in Alton Towers.

Not a theme park as such but we have stayed over at Warwick castle several times and loved it! Good accommodation and brill evening entertainment too.

Roar and Snore camping at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park?

MustDust · 15/04/2021 08:12

Our favourite hotel in the UK with the kids has been Chessington. Separate sleeping area for the kids so you can put them to bed and not have to go to sleep at 8 yourself, the restaurant looks out at the animals (or it did when we went) and it has a pool.
Alton Towers is like others have said, a bit grimy and expensive.

upsydaisyssinging · 15/04/2021 11:52

This is all great info, thank you! I didn't know you could stay at Warwick castle

Chessington, you can look out at the zebras and giraffes over a dinner/drink and the hotel is all safari themed

RachelRavenRoth · 15/04/2021 15:08

We did alton towers hotel for two nights between christmas and new year one year. that was brilliant. Entertainment all the times. That was good value.

What i loved about the enchanted village, apart from how lovely it is, was there were entertainers for the children in the evening with circus tricks, face painting, treasure hunts etc. My children had a really good time.

RachelRavenRoth · 15/04/2021 15:08

My neighbour does flamingo land camping every other year and her kids love that.

Pupster21 · 15/04/2021 15:12

Alton towers splash landings hotel - ok, sticky carpet. Alton towers enchanted village last year - filthy.
Drayton Manor hotel - very nice, nice restaurant
