Electronic tag left on

Tyredofallthis1 · 14/04/2021 09:51

Bought some school trousers for son, pack of two, at Tesco. He's wearing one lot. The other has an electronic tag. I didn't notice that it wasn't taken off.

I paid for it, never keep the reciept. But he can't wear them without getting rid of the tag and I can't afford to waste the money.

How can I get rid of the tag without taking it back to Tesco? (bit mentally fragile here). Grateful for help.

But why wouldn’t you just take it back to Tesco? The same happened to me with some trousers from a department store, and I no longer had the receipt either by the time I realised. I just explained and it wasn’t a problem.

Tyredofallthis1 · 14/04/2021 09:59

@TheFourOhFour really not in a good place mentally. I think it's beyond me, and panic attacks at customer service where I usually shop won't be helpful.

I may try if I have a good day. Thank you.

Is it that you’re afraid someone will think you’ve shoplifted it? Honestly, they get this stuff all the time!

Phone Tesco and speak to the store you bought them in. I have had security come to my house 15 miles from the store in the past because a tag was left on an item I needed for the next day.

I'm borderline suicidal.

I'm in a really bad place.

I do have good days, though, and your comments have reassured me, so I may be able to call in then.

Thank you for your help.

I'm borderline suicidal.

Make this your focus today, not the trousers.

Have you a contact number for when you feel like this?

Tyredofallthis1 · 14/04/2021 10:36

Trousers is manageable, but thank you. That's a kind thought.

Mumsnet can be a wonderful place.

I totally understand how something like this seems like such a big thing when you're in a bad place. Tesco have removed tags for me before without a receipt, but if you don't feel comfortable going in then I know pliers can get them off (if it's not one of those tags with paint inside!).

How old is your son? I have lots of brand new school trousers that my son has tried on but dismissed because of his sensory issues, then I've forgotten to return. I'd be happy to post some to you if it helps x

purplecorkheart · 14/04/2021 10:43

As long as it is does to have a ink cartridge attached try a magnet. I have seen online some one twisting a plastic bag between the clothes and the pin of the magnet. They kept twisting until it popped. Might be a clip on youtube.

Topseyt · 14/04/2021 10:43

Try not to panic. This happens all the time.

I recently bought myself a pair of new pyjamas from Tesco and forgot to have the tag removed before leaving the store. I'd paid at a self-service till and not even seen it. I couldn't find the receipt either by the next day but they still took it off without question at customer service.

I don't think they will think you stole it. I suspect that someone who had actually stolen an item would be unlikely to present themselves in person with the item back in the store.

Are you getting help with your mental health? That does sound like much more of the real issue here, not the trousers.

Caramelblonde · 14/04/2021 10:48

You can Google how to get the tags off, I've done it before some time ago. Tesco are always doing this, so annoying. Have a look at some ways online if you can't go back to store. Or phone up and speak to manager then you can just be quickly helped in store. Hope you sort it, sending strength to you.

TheFourOhFour · 14/04/2021 10:52

Or try another shop? I don't know whether the electronic tags are always standard, but I know I once ended up long, dull story getting a tag I hadn't noticed taken off a London-bought Uniqlo garment in a Paris boutique.

Rainbowandscarlett · 14/04/2021 10:59

I had this with some pyjamas from tesco last week
I'd gone through the self service but didn't get the receipt as my hands where full of snacks and other bits
Its not till I got it home that I saw id not had the tag taken off
(I'd gone through customer service to prove I'd paid but they where so busy proving I had that they forgot about the tag too)
I just whacked at it with a hammer and a g clamp in our shed and it came off within about a minute
I just binned the tag and wore the pyjamas
Just be careful you don't tear the fabric

chimom · 14/04/2021 11:00

Sending some love to you OP

I've brought lots of things back recently with tags on and it was fine and done in seconds.

JeffTheOracle · 14/04/2021 11:06

Don't panic OP. You can get the tag off with a knife, or with a lighter, there are lots of videos on YouTube to show you how.

If you do take it back they may ask if you have the receipt. If you aren't able to deal with that if it does come up then don't even try. Even if they do go ahead and just take the tag off, why stress yourself out. Honestly it takes minutes to take it off at home. Flowers for you. I hope you feel better soon

sittingonacornflake · 14/04/2021 11:12

could you post roughly where you are? I'd gladly take them back for you if I'm nearby.

InMySpareTime · 14/04/2021 11:16

If you used your club card they'll have a record of what you bought even without the receipt.

takingmytimeonmyride · 14/04/2021 11:18

I bought a t-shirt in November for Christmas. Come to wrap it up and it still had the tag on.receipt was long gone as I bought it with my weekly shop. I took it back and they took the tag off with no questions asked.

LagneyandCasey · 14/04/2021 11:19

I got one off by putting the spines of a fork through the metal pin between the tag and the fabric. Make sure the fork's bendy side faces upwards and pull the handle up hard and the tag should pop off. There are utube videos showing this method.

Take care op. There's a lot of help out there Flowers

ILoveFlumps · 14/04/2021 11:20

If it's a tag with no ink, take them outside, find something hard (pavement etc) and whack them as hard as can.
The tag will pop straight off.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/04/2021 11:26

If you have a hack saw or a decent aerated bread knife, saw the nipple shaped bit off that the metal pin goes into.
Then it just falls apart.
Take care getting the initial groove sawed
in.
I got my 15yo son to saw one off this way on a pair of slippers I had bought my mum for Xmas. Also Tesco. They seem notorious for not checking for tags.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/04/2021 11:27

Serrated knife

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 14/04/2021 11:28

Have you got a friend who can phone the store for you? When I had the same problem with a tag and no receipt I have phoned the store beforehand and went straight to customer service so they could see me bringing the clothes in. They were very helpful, no issue at all.

LIZS · 14/04/2021 11:30

Use two forks back to back to lever the tag off.
