Insomnia aftyCovid vaccine

Is this a thing?
Grateful to have had the Ox-AZ vaccine today; generally OK - bit of a headache and felt tired all evening but otherwise alright...

... until I tried to go to sleep.
I normally can drop off within minutes but here we are, 2.15am and wide awake. Thankfully off work tomorrow.

Anyone else experienced this or heard similar?

I had mine on Monday and slept very fitfully that night. So not sure if its related. I've been awake an hour and a half so good quality sleep isn't something I have much experience of generally but it was definitely different last night!

I didn't have such as a heavy arm last night and no headache but today I felt very achy and tired. Paracetamol and a long nap sorted that though.

Thank you - thought I was imagining things! I hope you are feeling much better now 😊

I am thanks!

The achiness I felt yesterday started around 10.30am but was gone by around 6pm. So go easy on yourself today!

Oh my god glad you mentioned this. I was almost going to post yesterday about insomnia. I had mine on Sunday and since then have been awake staring until about 3am, finally falling asleep then sleeping until 9/9.30. I didn't even feel tired, until last night when it did come over me about 3am. I had an epsom salt bath-think this helped. Also fairly restless and a fair few intense dreams, one involved an SAS kidnap and another an abduction investigation! It's been winding me up/dragging me down all week. The only positive (well, the stand out positive) is that I don't feel like death like last time when I was achey all over. I hadn't related the insomnia to the vaccine but it makes sense.

Your post has just reminded me..
I’ve not had the jab myself yet but my mum had the Oxford Astra Zeneca jab a few weeks ago and she said that she had terrible insomnia the night after her jab.
She was literally wide awake all night. The following day she had a headache and felt quite spaced out, but then that night she slept like a baby and was completely fine the next day.

A good friend of mine had their first AstraZeneca recently and didn't sleep for 62 hours! In desperation they took benalyn (sp?) and managed 12hrs sleep. I'm due my 2nd soon, didn't have insomnia on the first apart from being awake half the night due to being in a load of pain everywhere. Hoping the 2nd is easier!

I hear the second is easier.

That's from a very small sample of people I know who've had it though!

I feel so vindicated 😂

62 hours - I think I would have downed the bottle of Benilyn! I feel remarkably OK today for someone who didn't sleep but I'm hoping a full day of gardening in the cold weather will wipe me out for tonight.

I came on here as I'm on day 9 of sleepless nights. I had AZ Wednesday last week. I don't sleep a wink, absolutely nothing. Blamed it on worrying about clots. Day two I managed 4 hrs sleep.
Day 3 same as day one, not a wink. Sleeping tablet on day 4. Usually it knocks me out, but had a light restless night. Day 5 to present have been similar. Last night I went to bed at 4am (this morning) and I was up at 8am. Like pp, I'm not feeling tired, its just frustrating being up at the wee hours.
Hoping it resolves itself soon. Other than lack of sleep, I've had no other side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

fuckweasel · 22/05/2021 12:13

Yes! I had my second dose yesterday morning and had the worst night's sleep. Awake until after 3am then had lots of weird dreams; very vivid and disturbing just as I dropped off then I would wake myself up (I used to have lots of lucid dreams like these and can often wake myself up). Feel fine otherwise but hoping there isn't a repeat performance last night.

Polkadots2021 · 22/05/2021 13:19

Apparently insomnia and lucid dreams are side effects.

@roaringwater

How’s your sleep?

I had my booster jab 4 days ago and haven’t slept since… it’s hell and wish I hadn’t had it now
