Is this genie lamp valuable?

I bought this genie lamp from a bazaar in Marrakech years ago. I can't remember how much I paid, but up to £20 perhaps?

It's pretty heavy. I think it's bronze, with iridescent pearl inlays, but I'm not sure and don't know how to find out. It's about 6 inches in length.

Do you think it's valuable? I can't find many similar things on eBay to judge. How much would you try to sell it for if you're decluttering?

Thank you

Give it a rub and who knows? Grin

Haha! Judging by your user name you're a lamp specialist?

While I'm here, anyone care to comment on the value of these wooden boxes?

A lack of genie will definitely affect resale value.

If you bought it from a souk in Marrakech then unless you haggled for all your life is worth, you probably over paid.

Have a look on ebay/etsy to see what they sell for but I can't imagine there's a huge market.

dorothy001 · 12/04/2021 21:27

I think I attempted a haggle but my heart wasn't in it.

If someone is offering £6 for it, is that too low? Similar is listed on eBay for £20+, so I've optimistically listed it at that price, but who knows if anybody is buying?

Have you tried Facebook market place?
Can state your price...might be better than ebay bids?

Unfortunately not a specialist at all. Was lacking inspiration picking a user name ... was sat under the standard lamp....
Yep, I'm that boring.. Grin

normalsaline · 13/04/2021 10:31

Only if there’s a genie in it. Looks like standard tourist market stall crap (no offence)

Aprilshowersandhail · 13/04/2021 10:32

Admit it op... Have you rubbed it?

SnowAllSpring · 13/04/2021 10:34

They saw you coming, OP!

ShrikeAttack · 13/04/2021 10:36

If someone's offered you £6, I'd say you're doing well.

dorothy001 · 13/04/2021 10:37

What premium would a genie add to the price?

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 13/04/2021 10:37

I dont know, I really like it! It's probably a case of finding the right buyer. If I wasnt on a constant grind of keeping 'stuff' in my tiny flat to an absolute minimum I'd probably pay around £20 for it Grin

Bluntness100 · 13/04/2021 10:39

Looking at what’s for sale they seem to go for between a fiver ans 16 quid with the more expensive ones very ornate. I’d say about 6 quid is right. Sorry op.

Aprilshowersandhail · 13/04/2021 10:39

Depends if it was Will Smith!

dorothy001 · 13/04/2021 10:39

Sparkle you sure I can't tempt you?? We don't know that it definitely does NOT have a genie inside.

OP posts:
Aprilshowersandhail · 13/04/2021 10:54

So you deny ever rubbing it?

dorothy001 · 13/04/2021 13:39

I do deny. But that's just a fact, and it's not because I'm opposed to rubbing it. Does one simply rub it, or is an incantation required?

Swap it for some magic beans.

Whoever's buying all those £20+ genie lamps on eBay, I guess it's not you guys

The lamp looks like brass. Bronze tends to be darker.

Try marketing it as a boho living accesoire? Or what do you call knick knacks properly in english?
