To the woman in Preston Hospital car park

Who helped a flustered driver in a red car back out of a narrow space, thank you so very much. It's a new (to us) car, much bigger than I'm used to and I had to get out within 7 minutes or else re-park and go back to the payment machines.

Plus DS2 (EBF and won't take a bottle) was at home, the longest time I've left him since he was born and my parking skills aren't great at the best of times. Trying to back out of that space time and time again and feeling like more and more of an idiot, then you appeared and saved the day. I'm sure you'll never see this message but wanted to send it out into the ether and hope that someone did something kind for you too today Flowers

How lovely to see a positive parking story.

SummerHouse · 12/04/2021 20:17

Love this!

Bluetrews25 · 12/04/2021 20:25

I was shite at parking. My rear sensors and wing mirrors have helped me to reverse in to the parking bay, so you can drive out. Take your time, use your mirrors, don't turn around. Easier to reverse in between 2 cars as you can see where to go better.
Seriously, reverse in is so much easier than reversing out.

Theunamedcat · 12/04/2021 20:29

I've had my car 12 months im shit at reversing it i blame lockdown I've hardly driven it and rarely have I had to park near another car so im shit at it im going to practice next week in a quiet car park because its ridiculous 🤣

PaperMonster · 12/04/2021 20:30

How lovely!

IhateBoswell · 12/04/2021 20:35

How lovely. I used to get into a panic when reversing out of a space, awful that flustered feeling 😑

PatsyJStone · 12/04/2021 20:39

Learn to reverse park, it’s a safer practice, many companies insist on it in their private car parks, I’ve done nothing but reverse park for over twenty years. Im worse at driving in front first.

imaginethemdragons · 12/04/2021 20:44

I know that bastard car park.
It’s impossible to reverse park due to the cars parked along behind you as well as the tiny spaces with cars each side of you.
So literally you are boxed in from behind and each side.
Bastard of a car park op.
Not surprised you were panicking.

crosshatching · 12/04/2021 20:51

That's a lovely story OP I also hate reverse parking but sensors are really helpful. Glad one of the parking angels found you today!

Miljea · 12/04/2021 20:53

Lovely story!

But seriously, I know today was particularly fraught, but once you've calmed down, sort out your parking skills-everyone who says they struggle.

You're hauling around a bit of killer kit, up to 70mph in it- and you can't control it over 2-3m. Quiet car park of a weekend. Or a driving lesson focusing on parking etc.

You'll feel so much more confident once you can!

KevinandRainbowlina · 12/04/2021 21:00

Thank you for the reminder that I need to sort out reverse parking, you are all absolutely right! I've never had sensors before but now I do there's no excuse.

And @imaginethemdragons you've described it to a tee, good old car park B. Urgh.

There is a plan for a multi - storey car park at RPH. Whenever that happens.
As said above it is a twat of a car park with narrow spaces and rows too close together.

Slub · 12/04/2021 21:33

Sounds like my local hospital car park - absolute pits not helped by peeps abandoning cars in non spaces which makes it almost impossible to park going in forwards never mind reverse parking. Nice that you met a Good Samaritan 👍

kackle · 12/04/2021 21:48

I know this car park. It’s a nightmare to park in.

The spaces have cars parked perpendicular to them and they are a nightmare to reverse out of / in too.

Babygotblueyes · 12/04/2021 22:03

How nice!

Miseryl · 12/04/2021 22:08

That is a lovely story but OP you need to make sure you are safe behind the wheel. Downsize your car if it is too big for you and practice parking. You could endanger yourself or someone else.

Soothes · 12/04/2021 22:23

Parking wasn't part of the test when I took mine. 20 years later I booked a handful of lessons, despite having a driving licence, to sort it out. Once I'd been taught how properly, it's actually not that hard, but I really couldn't do it before.

MrsBobDylan · 12/04/2021 22:37

I owned a big red car op. Only car I've ever owned since new.

I repeated backed into things in car parks, it was horrendous. Bloody Vauxhall Zafira.

Glad you got out in the end Grin

SeaTurtles92 · 12/04/2021 22:54

How lovely.
Nice to see things like this.
My DP will only reverse park as he says it's always much easier to get out!
