Flowers & events

I'm struggling to understand the 'rules' around flowers and weddings/funerals. You can't have any?
But you can walk into any large supermarket/garage and buy a bunch of flowers and give them to someone.
What is the logic for the 'ban' - can anyone enlighten me?

We can have flowers at funerals in Scotland. Don’t know about weddings.

We had flowers at DGM & FIL funeral recently with no issue, is this a really new thing?

Who has banned them?

I've seen mention on a couple of local social media (England) pages. Someone attending a wedding/funeral and have been told they 're not allowed flowers "because of covid".

This sounds so silly I googled it. Nothing came up about not having flowers at weddings.

Maybe it's just local churches being ott then. I must admit I hadn't investigated as currently it isn't something that's affecting me, but had seen a few posts (not on MN) about it.
