If you could share one household tip/life hack, what would it be?

Mine would definitely be that drying clothes in sunlight gets rid of tomato/sauce stains. Am weaning my second child and it's a bloody lifesaver. No more soaking things for hours that still come out with orange marks on them.

What other gems are there that I need to know?

If you curse your in-laws for raising a lazy, useless child, don't repeat the cycle with your kids.

@BalloonSlayer

These threads always make me smile. I always want to add:
  • save time in the evening by not making your DCs' packed lunches till the morning. They'll taste better too.
  • Save time showering by not cleaning the bloody bath while you're in there.
  • declutter and tidy your hall by not leaving a box full of paperwork right by the front door for a whole year
  • save time unpacking your shopping by not sorting every item into boxes in the fridge and just bunging it all in anyhow
@BalloonSlayer I’m not sure cleaning the bath/shower while you’re in it saves that much time, I just find it so much easier and much less of a chore to do it after I’ve showered. Much less awkward than getting in to clean it while fully clothed for some reason 😄.

@GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman I am changing my sheets tomorrow just so I can write SIDE and END on the godforsaken superking duvet that I have to count every bloody time! Thank you!

Shameless placemarking

Andante57 · 12/04/2021 21:21

Invite people round when your house is messy so that you (and they) get used to it

It’s also good manners as when the guests leave they can say smugly, ‘oh at least our house isn’t as untidy as the Andantes house’.

@Nettleskeins

Don't shack up with a neat freak
Tell me about it.
Camdenish · 12/04/2021 21:23

ohtobeaseahorse I think we have untidy homes but way better parties...

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 12/04/2021 21:24

Quite a new one for me and it doesn’t involve cleaning! When I peel potatoes, carrots and parsnips for a roast, I fry them in a bit of oil to make veggie crisps. Sprinkle of sea salt and yum- chefs treat!

Love this post! Magic erasers!

@Muminabun

Marry a tradesman
We are always last on the list as he's always doing jobs for others

Or just pop to a corner shop on the way home 😂! Before Covid we used to use a cab company that always gave us a pint of milk and a fresh loaf of bread when picking us up from the airport.

icdtap · 12/04/2021 21:28

Sleep outside

EmotionallyEncumbered · 12/04/2021 21:29

Have a small (one wash-load sized) basket for each family member. Once full they bring it down to wash, once dry goes back in basket, put away themselves, empty ready for next load. No more sorting washing!

Admittedly we never iron, might not work if you do.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 12/04/2021 21:29

Get a cleaner.

Queenie6655 · 12/04/2021 21:33

These are wonderful guys

Wish I Hd something valuable to add 😲😲🤣

Pickle2828 · 12/04/2021 21:33

To put on a duvet cover... Start with it inside out, put your hands inside to the corners and grab the duvet and covers, then shake the cover down to inside out it over the duvet. Done in a fraction of the time!

Queenie6655 · 12/04/2021 21:35

If you've got small children, make the bed up twice - do a waterproof sheet, then a regular sheet, then a waterproof sheet, then a sheet on top. If anyone is sick or wees the bed, it makes changing it much easier - whip the top too layers off before anyone wakes up too much.

Just drink dairy free alternatives.

Saving the planet, and not ever accidentally having a milky G&T.

Is there any other way?
GameofPhones · 12/04/2021 21:37

Tunble dryer is great for removing dog hairs from clothes. But occasionally pieces of fluff get stuck to clothes in the dryer. I put that garment outside on the line, and eventually all the fluff gets blown away.

These washing line hook ups are probably the handiest household gadgets I've ever bought. Perfect for coathangers on the washing line or an Ikea octopus underwear hanger.

Gobbeldegook · 12/04/2021 21:43

Baking soda and white vinegar clean most things brilliantly
