If you could share one household tip/life hack, what would it be?

Mine would definitely be that drying clothes in sunlight gets rid of tomato/sauce stains. Am weaning my second child and it's a bloody lifesaver. No more soaking things for hours that still come out with orange marks on them.

What other gems are there that I need to know?

Don't buy dark coloured sheets for teenage boys

After a trip to the beach, talcum powder is brilliant at removing sand from the toes and feet. Damp sand falls off like magic.

Live on your own, in a box with just a few things.... definitely not on a farm with 3 kids 2 dogs, cat and various other animals that randomly walk in your house to see if you getting ready to feed up Hmm
Hahaha I wish I was clever like that before my first child 🤣🤣🤣

When you've got to sew a button on, rethread the needle with white (Or black) thread, and keep it on the mantepiece or somewhere easy to get to. Just a short piece. It is one of those things that is disproportionately beneficial.

Never iron.

Keep on top of household chores so it doesn't appear a mountain to climb.

Involve the entire family in household chores so that it becomes part of life - no one needs to be a martyr to housework.

Use scissors for cutting pizza, meat etc! Saves much faffing with knives and kids can help too!

To be honest, many of these tips are more trouble than they’re worth! For me anyway.
I'm just feeling lucky I'm single reading them. Some are a bit oppressive even - never leave a room empty handed, as if you have to be doing housework every single second of your life. Never go to bed with an untidy kitchen, so even if it's really late and you don't have to get up early the next morning?

I have tried every tip I've seen to clean bathroom floor tile grout but nothing has worked. Any suggestions (hopefully there will be something I haven't tried yet). Getting so fed up of dirty grout on the floor. Angry

When you're over tired hide a bottle of wine in the messiest room in the house, you'll forget where it is and when you really want it you'll Tidy the room to find it!

If you have white grout that has discolored, use one of those white grout paint pens. I got an off-brand one for £3 on amazon. I used it on the kitchen and bathroom tiles, it still looks perfect a year later!

Instead of cutting a circle of greaseproof paper for a springform tin; tear off a square, assemble the tin around it and snap it shut and just tear off the excess.

ShadowKitty · 13/04/2021 18:28

Toothpaste gets the marks from kids toys off the bath. I thought they had scratched the enamel off but a dry rub with some toothpaste got them all off.

nopuppiesallowed · 13/04/2021 18:31

I married a mathematician........sigh!

mdh2020 · 13/04/2021 18:31

Make sure you can afford a cleaner

serin · 13/04/2021 18:32

Get rid of stuff.
Unless you need it or really love it, then it is just literally a waste of space.

Middersweekly · 13/04/2021 18:32

Alcohol gel/wipes can get rid of sticky marks left by tape.

Wet wipes are a godsend

Buy one of those glass scraper tools- game changer for glass job tops and ovens!

Bertiebiscuit · 13/04/2021 18:33

Don't live with a man - they never do their share

Slub · 13/04/2021 18:40

@Muminabun

Marry a tradesman
Fuck no! I'm married to one - in my defence he wasn't one when we did marry and my stuff that needs doing in the home is the LAST on the list/never gets done in favour of paid work and mates rates jobs for his friends Hmm
Ddot · 13/04/2021 18:43

Yellowsubmarines
Soak toilet roll with bleach and stick to grout, leave overnight. Works with hairdye on wall too but dont leave too long

3Britnee · 13/04/2021 18:45

@MadMadMadamMim

Two small children?

Have a large box behind the sofa/in the living room. When you come downstairs from putting small children to bed pick up old apple cores, discarded clothes, toys, bits of lego, books, and every other thing that is scattered in your living room.

Throw into box and shove behind sofa out of sight.

Sit down. That's you done for the day.

Would you really leave food rotting behind your sofa? Surely it can't be that far to the bin.
Ddot · 13/04/2021 18:48

Dissolve washing powder for colours in boiling hot water. Two pairs of gloves and a white flannel. Wring out flannel and scrub stains off carpet, bloody marvel
