This is why we must get the uk open now. Thirsk ( outdoor) bird of prey centre not allowed to open.

Was hoping to visit tomorrow to celebrate DH birthday.
This lovely little outdoor family run sanctuary with a stunning array of birds all beautifully cared for by family members cannot open today.

It’s just ridiculous, mean and petty.
Please support them if you’re in the area. It’s uplifting, educational and extremely good value.

I’m so angry about this.
From their web site

We had planned to reopen on the 12th April however updated government guidance recently received states that we are not allowed to offer flying displays, or any talks or demonstrations that would generate an audience and we feel this is a big part of what we offer. For most people the main part of their visit is seeing the birds fly free during our three daily shows and it will be difficult for us to restrict access to this area as we will of course still be exercising and training our birds still.
We have taken the difficult decision to delay opening until 17th May (government restrictions allowing of course). We have been in touch with our Local MP and other governing bodies to raise our concerns and seek clarification, If the situation changes we will reopen straight away.
I know many of you will understand how difficult these enforced closures have been for us but as always the health and safety of our birds, visitors and staff will always come before anything else.
We now have to budget for being closed for a further 5 weeks, yet again another blow to an already challenging year.
Please be aware our experience sessions are still continuing from 1st May (as these are allowed).
So once again, take care and we really are looking forward to seeing you all soon.

They are allowed to open, they’re just reasonably enough choosing not to. Most zoos cancelled shows and keeper talks a long long time ago. It’s not a situation in which people can properly socially distance (as you can see from the photo on their website) and I don’t see how a flying display is any different to an outdoor concert or theatre or 30 friends at a bbq. It’s just how it is. Lots and lots of businesses and charities are suffering. I don’t think we can throw the roadmap out the window over it.

I think it's a bit ott to say this is why we must open.

We should open as and when safe to do so, in steps, to prevent unnecessary human death. More important than birds
