I've an event on 16th July that I want to look my absolute best for.
My starting point is I'm 55 and 4 stone overweight.
( it's going to be a challenge!!)

I've got my hair appointment, brows, threading and manicure and pedicure booked for a few days before.
How would you sort me out?
I am feeling a bit flat that's why I'm asking for suggestions!!

Start by exercising daily, cut out alcohol completely and also on top of exercise walk 10000 steps a day.

I would join a gym and do classes

Arbadacarba · 12/04/2021 07:49

I would start a healthy eating and exercise plan. It would be unwise to try to lose 4 stone in such a short time, so instead set yourself mini-goals - half a stone at a time. You will feel much better about yourself once your weight starts going in the right direction, however much or little you manage to lose by the day. If you focus on eating healthy foods rather than simply cutting calories, you should also see improvements to your complexion.

Really take your time planning an outfit, as well. That will help you feel positive - you've got time to try several options before July. Planning it to the last details - underwear, shoes, accessories - will also contribute to the feeling on the day that you are looking your absolute best.

notacooldad · 12/04/2021 07:51

I've made a start bjjgirl
Gym at 11.00 o'clock and a swim tonight! ( I'm assuming I'm going to fit into my cossie!!!)
Apart from Christmas day I've not had any alcohol since November. It hasn't appeared to make one jot of difference to me 😒

Fast 800 eating plan.

niceupthedance · 12/04/2021 07:58

Intermittent fasting

AgathaX · 12/04/2021 08:00

I think you could lose a significant amount of weight between now and then if you wanted to. Exercise to tone up too.

muddledmidget · 12/04/2021 08:05

Good skin also takes some work, so as well as diet and exercise to lose weight and tone up, I'd also look at getting enough sleep and drinking water, as well as a cleansing routine for your face. In fact just general self care if you're going to be putting your body through stress. I love Epsom salt baths with lavender as a way to unwind in the evenings, and they're really good for aching muscles too if you've overdone it at the gym!

muddledmidget · 12/04/2021 08:07

But I really like the idea of 13 weeks of self improvement, so I think I might do the same. I'm 2st overweight, and my skin isn't glowing, and my body aches from a lack of gym/pilates with too much fast food and increased hours at work. For the next 13 weeks my health and wellbeing comes first!

moirarosebabay · 12/04/2021 08:08

Lift weights. Get a Fitbit and do as many steps as possible. Treat food as fuel. I eat better when I am exercising as i will eat oatcakes or bananas 2 hours before to give me energy. I've done 40000 steps sat and Sunday and notice a difference in 2 days. If you go for it you can make a big difference. I like competing with my Fitbit friends.

EmmaStone · 12/04/2021 08:09

I'd probably sign up to Joe Wicks' 90 day plan.

ColouringPencils · 12/04/2021 08:14

I don't think I would try to lose 4 stone, I would aim for 1-2 pounds a week using My Fitness Pal or Fitbit app (if you have a Fitbit).
Sleep - go to bed early and give yourself a lovely nightly routine of skin treatments, lavender spray for pillow, guided meditation or reading a good book.
Exercise - 10k steps a day, plus swimming or whatever exercise you love
Good food - lots of lovely fresh salads and soups, less of the diet food crap

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/04/2021 08:49

Healthy eating and drinking with the aim to slowly get back to a healthier weight. I usually do this buy writing down everything I eat.

Sleep hygiene - there is a link between sleep and weight.

Exercise to get back into shape and again for health reasons. There are some great videos out there aimed at absolute beginners like I would be then.

Re-structure the day to create good habits for long term success. There is a link between weight and stress, too.

Submariner · 12/04/2021 09:00

Sounds woo woo but as well as the suggestions above, how about looking in the mirror every morning and listing 3 things you like about yourself and giving yourself a big smile like you mean it? I always think you can see when people are happy in themselves.

MynameisFlo · 12/04/2021 09:33

I'll join you if that's ok. I have 15 weeks until I turn 48 and am 6 stone overweight. I dont have a skincare routine at all
I splash water on my face every morning.
I dont wear any makeup and I really think I need to but have no idea where to start. Will be getting a haircut and brows done soon.

Twilightstarbright · 12/04/2021 09:33

I'd aim for 1-2lb a week weight loss, focussing on unprocessed foods and lots of veg as it'll make you look good too.

Start regularly applying handcream, cuticle oil, moisturising your skin, hair conditioning treatment once a week, face mask.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/04/2021 09:35

I need something in my calendar to motivate me.

In my head, I'd aim for calorie deficit, a short burst of activity daily, 10000 steps a day, no booze, loads of water.

But I lack the motivation to be able to do it

FinallyHere · 12/04/2021 09:50

With perfect timing, low carb bootcamp starts today. Come over and join in 😀

All the information you need is available together in the 'spreadsheet of fabulousness' pinned at the top of the thread. Lots of recipes, too

Enjoy.

Look up foods to make your skin glow and plans meals around that.

Sex! (If it's available to you…!). Nothing gets your skin brighter like it Wink

Look up lymphatic drainage massage on YouTube and give yourself a facial massage each week. It really does remove any puffiness and helps with lines.

I've been using the Sally Hansen nail growth stuff, which seems to have strengthened mine as well as growing them.

Start using weekly hair masks. Try a skincare consultation if you can afford one, or just do some research into the best routine and products for your skin type.

Book in to the hygienist the week of the event. My teeth were so white after a proper cleaning recently!

And if you're interested in a bit of a tan now would be the time to start trying products/shades/tones.

Exfoliate all over in the shower and moisturise everywhere afterwards. Take a pumice stone to your feet in the shower too and slather on Flexitol afterwards for super-soft feet.

justjuggling · 13/04/2021 01:37

Botox
Teeth cleaned or whitened if they’re yellow
Book a fake tan
New underwear ( good shape plus confidence!)
Fabulous outfit
Hair cut

Solongtoshort · 13/04/2021 03:16

Don’t fast l was reading something the other day (l really which l could remember so l could reference to it) it doesn’t help long term weight loss.

Drink water

Remember why you want to do it so you don’t give up. Put a picture of the dress on your screen saver.

Tickledtrout · 13/04/2021 06:03

LCHF will make a big dent in four stone and you'll probably feel better. Agree about low carb bootcamp
Daily routine of Pilates and a walk.
Body brushing

SandysMam · 13/04/2021 06:25

Get a good whitening toothpaste, Pearl drops or similar, or get hold of some crest white strips if you can.

Use a glycolic acid on your face, sweep on with cotton wool once or twice a day after cleansing. This has made a huge difference to my skin. Pixie glow is nice, or Superdrug do a naturally radiant one which is great. Just start with it ASAP.

Weight wise, just eat natural. So nothing is banned but just eat very wholesome meals, loads of veg. Keep in mind that feeling of walking into the event, how you would feel looking your worst, and how you would feel looking your best. Capture that thought every time you chose some crap food.

Loads of fresh air. Just a sweaty up hill walk for 30 minutes every day in the fresh air is all you really need. Good for skin as well as losing weight.

Good luck OP!

notacooldad · 13/04/2021 07:05

Lots of good advice.
Some I already do, some I'm going to get cracking on!
I went back to the gym yesterday and my arms are feeling it. My poor arms had forgotten about bench pressing and shoulder presses!
I do a lot of hill and mountain walking and mountain biking so my legs feel ok.
I know I won't lise 4 stone, that would be my ideal weight loss, by July but something has clicked to make the time right for me.
Eyrbriws are being threaded and tinted and I'm having a few Corner eyelash extensions into today!
Thanks for all your ideas!
