Is it OK to sleep in a room with the windows open when it's - 1?

Just that really... my kids window just wouldn't shut tonight. Its wide open, they have fleecy onesies on and duvet plus blanket. They're 9 and 12.

I always have the window open in the bedroom regardless of the temperature.
They sound like they are well wrapped up.
They will be fine op

EvilOnion · 12/04/2021 01:06

Yes. I never close my bedroom window. I need the fresh air circulating!

Is the window secure when open? As a result of far too many True Crime podcasts I would be wary of leaving my kids in a room with an unsecured window...

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/04/2021 01:07

I always sleep with the window open, they'll be fine, they'll wake up if they're cold, they're not tiny babies. It's much healthier to have an open window.

I used to live in the Swiss Alps, and would have my bedroom window open when it was minus 17.

I always sleep with all the windows open! Bed is warm though. Put on extra cover on if you're worried.

HeddaGarbled · 12/04/2021 01:17

Well, they’ll live but it’s not ideal. Does it have to be ‘wide’ open?

Twoforthree · 12/04/2021 01:35

I have it slightly open when there is snow even.

DeRigueurMortis · 12/04/2021 01:53

I always have my bedroom windows open.

I like the cold fresh air plus the warmth of being under the duvet.

I find it stuffy and awful without the fresh air.

So yes, they will be fine - in fact it's probably better for them.

UniversitySerf · 12/04/2021 03:54

I always had e my windows open, I did shut them when it got to minus 17, which was once about a decade ago.

whatswithtodaytoday · 12/04/2021 04:23

I always have the window slightly open. -1 is nothing! If anything they'll be too hot in all those clothes, I'm currently in bed without clothes and with just a duvet.

SuperintendentHastings · 12/04/2021 06:37

It's -1 not -50! 😊. All our bedroom windows are open a smidge all year round.

boomwhacker · 12/04/2021 06:42

The OP says "wide open", not open a crack. There is a big difference! I don't think it's ok at all and would have moved them into a different room. Given that it's now morning though I suspect it's done now.

SuperintendentHastings · 12/04/2021 07:34

@boomwhacker I take it you've never been camping at Easter? 😂 Now that really can be cold!
