Doppelganger

Inspired by unbelievable stories thread. Do you or anyone you know have a doppelganger? When I was in Spain with Dsis years ago, there was a man sitting across from us in the hotel restaurant who looked exactly like our dad. He literally looked just like him. At first we thought it was him, we even went over to his table ready for confrontation, as we couldn't understand why our dad was in Spain with another woman! We ended up chatting to him for a few minutes, and we told him why we approached his table. We showed him and his wife a couple of photos of our dad, and they were awe struck by the resemblance too. We were all seriously debating if they could have been twins separated at birth. When we got home and showed dad the photos, he thought we had photoshopped his face onto someone else's body and didn't believe us! To this day he thinks we were having him on.

Tell me your doppelganger stories please!

I have one, though she’s not been spotted for a while now. She was a right Trollope and was always getting me in trouble.

A friend of a friend has a ds that literally could be my ds.. Very odd! Age the same bar a few weeks. My friend showed his dm and she agreed! So did the boys when showed pics.
Even my older dc were fooled!

I have one apparently.

I was accused by my then boyfriend of being out dancing when I wasn’t.

And my mum saw her at a bus stop and pulled the car over to pick me/ her up before having a right good look and realising it wasn’t me!

The same woman also appeared a few years later and again my mum noticed her but remembered to check it wasn’t me. It wasn’t me as I was in work.

Weird.

I have one! Although I have never seen her lots of reliable people have including my DS and his girlfriend! She dresses similarly to me (I like unusual clothing), drives the same car, lives in the same city.

She was once in a store and a train station just before me. I was once approached by her friend and she has been approached by mine!

@user1471538283 that's crazy!

Not a doppelgänger but a funny story.

I went into a garage but not in my local area and saw a man working behind the counter who was the absolute image of the man who worked in my local shop. I said ‘hello surprised to see you here, you work in my local shop’. He said ‘no’ , I apologised and said ‘wow, you have a double, working in my local’.

Days later, went to my local and double was in there, I was like oh wow you have a double the other side of town. Him ‘no it was me, the other job do not know I work here too’. Me. Hmm

Your friend... I would be making some enquiries about that lol.

Yes, he was a little bit famous in certain circles and I was mistaken for him a few times. I don’t see it, but thats because I don’t really like him.

There are two guys at my rugby club who could be twins, they look very very alike, same build and everything. One is Australian so we’re fairly certain neither of them are secrectly a love child.

Name changed because I've told this story enough that it'll definitely out me if any of my colleagues or friends are on here.

Part of our team were sent to work from a different location for a while.

First day, when I went to the canteen to get coffee, I was astonished to see a lady on the till who appeared to be my mum.

Second day, the canteen supervisor suddenly collared me and asked whether I was the lady on the till's daughter.

knitonedropone · 12/04/2021 01:28

I have one, we met a few years ago and the resemblance was striking, I put a picture of her in a frame before my mum came to visit and she picked it up saying she'd not seen that photo of me before Grin

ConeHat · 12/04/2021 01:35

I saw mine in a restaurant once. She looked exactly like me and was wearing a top I had. She noticed my looking at her and i could tell she had a "omg theres my double" look on her face.

I’m a teacher and when I started at my first school aged 22, on placement so no one had ever met me prior to turning up, the head of department looked like she had seen a ghost when I walked into the room.

She asked me if I was related to a woman called Jenny Jones (not her real name). I said no, puzzled, and I didn’t have the same surname as her or anything so was totally confused. Jenny had apparently worked in the department for 5 years and was my double. Or I guess I was hers. As the day went on and I met more people in the school they all immediately said “oh you must be Jenny Jones’ sister, I heard she was thinking of doing teacher training!’ This went on for weeks and it was baffling and so weird. The kids even said over and over that I was the spitting image of Miss Jones.

This was pre good camera phones and Facebook etc so no one could easily find me a picture, but a few days later someone brought in a physical print from a night out. Sure enough, this woman is my double. It was spooky.

It was so odd. She had moved to Scotland to get married to a Scot (we were in London) and so I never met her, although she had friends at the school who apparently told her about this girl with her face! Even weirder was how everyone would say it wasn’t just my face, it was how I moved and my expressions and how I talked. Even my voice.

I’m very confident of my parentage, although my dads dad had various kids with various women and three wives. My dad has 10 known half siblings from his dad (who eventually did a moonlight flit go Wales with a mistress) so I can only assume that Jenny Jones was a relation of mine somehow through him.

Years later I looked for her on Facebook (she had a new surname so it took a bit of digging) but when I found her, sure enough she’s still up in Scotland, walking around, looking like me.

Although I never met her it was one of my more spooky experiences.

Throughout school people always used to say to me 'I know your older sister' but I didn't have one.

My cousin once called me, really annoyed because I had walked past him in the street and blanked him.

I saw her in a restaurant one day, it was so strange, I was just completely frozen as this person had my face, now I wish I had spoken to her. My brother and DH were spooked by it too but weirdly my brothers DGF could not see much of a resemblance.

I know I also have a distant cousin in Australia who looks very similar to me and when younger it was hard to tell us apart in photos.

LemonSwan · 12/04/2021 02:07

I have one apparently.

Went to a festival abroad and in the airport I was walking through. I saw a couple of people I had made friends with at the festival. They said oh you changed quickly. I said what?! haha. They said we just spoke to you two seconds ago wearing x. I said er, I just got here. They looked freaked out. I said why who was this person. Apparently same first name, same face, same hair, same accent and voice - I have a very distinctive voice, very distinct hair, and a not unusual but not common name either. Utterly bizarre.

Also my housemate at uni had a doppelganger who used to walk past our house at the time. Same build, same face, same hair, same clothes, same shoes. Bizarre.

Resetting · 12/04/2021 02:20

I have one, various people have seen her/mistaken her for me, including my ex, who thought I was snubbing him when he first saw her (I think he waved and she looked baffled/ignored him).

Part of me would like to meet her, but another part thinks it would be totally weird/creepy.

Meeting your doppelganger is supposed to be bad luck.

DramaAlpaca · 12/04/2021 02:27

Apparently I do. An acquaintance told me she'd seen someone who was the image of me staying at the same resort as her on holiday. I reckon she'd had a few too many holiday cocktails. My alleged doppelganger certainly doesn't have the same taste in holidays as me

fairydustandpixies · 12/04/2021 02:36

Whilst at work one afternoon I had to let in the photocopier repair guy. He did a double take and asked if I make a habit of breaking copiers and laughed. I was completely baffled and he said about seeing me that morning at my other job. I didn't have a clue what he was talking about, he started to look confused and insisted he'd seen me earlier. It all became clear when he mentioned the name of the other business he'd 'seen' me at - it wasn't me, it was my sister! I don't think we look anything alike!

DoubleHelix79 · 12/04/2021 02:58

I was once sent a (very tasteful) nude by a friend - the girl in it looked so much like me that only the fact I'd never done anything resembling a professional glamour shot convinced me it really wasn't me. I now wish I'd kept the photo and passed it off as me in my prime.

Jenasaurus · 12/04/2021 03:23

I was watching The Capture and suddenly my DDs boyfriends face appeared on the screen. Callum Turner was the actor and his face is identical, so much so I took a screenshot of it and sent it to my DD who was equally suprised at the likeness.

dizzzzzy · 12/04/2021 05:37

Here’s a good one. Years ago I was working in an office and we were all good friends and knew each other well. One day I come in and my Manager tells me this gem.

So it’s after work in a supermarket I think, and she sees the main caretaker up the queue with his wife. She then realizes that although it looks a hell of a lot like him, it’s not him. She doesn’t know what to do, thinking she’s caught his wife having an affair and with a man that bizarrely looks just like her husband to boot. Couple catch her looking and give her funny looks. She gets the hell out of dodge.

She goes home and works herself into a state wondering what she should do and whether or not to tell the caretaker. Eventually she does, and she’s a bag of nerves.

Unexpectedly, he starts roaring laughing.

It turns out that his wife is a twin. And said twin is also married to HIS brother who is pretty much identical to him. A happy ending and I spent the next week breaking out in howling laughter at her expense. I’m a terrible friend. But it was priceless.
