Hi

Just wondering what people’s experience of David Lloyd’s gyms have been and whether they are worth the expense?

Very expensive, charge a fortune for even young kids but if you really truthfully will use it a lot then worth it in my opinion. We had a 3 month membership when our local pool was shut for repairs and used the pool/outside pool everyday. Unless you are going to be there multiple times a week dont bother.

Was it that mob that bbc watchdog we’re looking into because they were demanding months of notice when people wanted to leave?

Read the small print vet very carefully.

If it is then, it was something like three months notice from the first of the month. So if you gave notice today you’d have missed the April first cut off so giving notice now would be considered 1st of may, so three months into that takes you to end of July. So you’d need to pay til then.

Crikey, three months notice is a lot! Thanks I will look into that.

I think we might use it two to three times a week. It’s not really local though, it’s a good 30 minutes away by car which puts me off a bit. The outdoor pool is very enticing though, facilities lovely but at £130 per month I’m really thinking it through before I commit.

To be honest with that distance and only 2 or 3 times a week I think it will be a waste of money. The people I know who still use it are there every day sometimes twice a day and live just round the corner so can pop in on a whim.

I left after they put the price up,it was already expensive. The changing rooms weren’t clean and I got sick of middle aged men thinking they owned the pool. When I complained, noting was done.

I'm a member, but I'm close enough that it's reasonable to go for an adult early morning swim, have breakfast, then take DS for a splash in the pool during family swim time before lunch.

The last fortnight of outdoor swimming has been such a highlight (except when it sodding snowed). But again, close enough that I can turn up with a hoody over my costume.

I have left recently after many years. Our David Lloyd was not clean or well maintained. My new gym is spotless and much slicker and professional.

We were members for about a year. First few months we went quite a lot, kids went swimming after school and played racquet sports, DP had tennis lessons, we all used the gym and ate there afterwards.

Then it drifted a bit, kids were less enthusiastic and I ended up just using the hot tub most of the time Grin so we cancelled.

Then covid hit and the restrictions meant we didn’t go at all when they first opened up. Having just reopened I’m not sure if I’ll go back to ‘work out my notice’!

If you’re using it a lot as a kind or country club, maybe meeting friends there too, it’s probably worth it, as it’s so much nicer than other gyms and pools. Being outside by the pool in the summer is like being on holiday so in my mind it was like having several weeks of sunshine instead of just a week abroad! Shame we missed all the good weather last year, but if we get some sunshine in the next few weeks while I’m still a member I’ll definitely make the most of it!!

Kind of*

I’ve been a members for about 10 yrs. can walk there in 13 minutes. I only do classes. Not happy that when they can only do out door classes they carry on charging the same amount as indoor classes.

MrsMidClegs · 11/04/2021 23:40

Go for Ballantynes, they guarantee single sex changing rooms. Others are all jumping on the inclusivity gravy train which is horrendous if you want to get changed in front of female bodies only.

At mine you had to book your classes within 2 hours of them being'released' on the app, otherwise they'd be full by the time you got round to it. That meant you had to go on the app daily which was such a pain. I found it impossible to book the classes I wanted.
Also there was never any parking slots left.
Busy club in SE.
