Would I be mental to attempt a trip to IKEA tomorrow?

Do we think it will be rammed?!

Other question-what is their houseplant selection like?

Yes that is insane. Give it a week or two and go in the late evening midweek

MonkeyPuddle · 11/04/2021 10:39

It will be horrific

moochingtothepub · 11/04/2021 10:39

Horrific, go to a garden centre for houseplants or even Morrison's that had loads yesterday

IsolaPribby · 11/04/2021 10:41

If you want houseplants, then IKEA is not the first choice. As others have said, local garden centre, or even B&Q or Homebase.

PanamaPattie · 11/04/2021 10:42

Yes. Leave it a month.

Milomonster · 11/04/2021 10:42

Yep don’t bother. I went in the first few days of opening last time lockdown was lifted. I queues two hours and got there to find out my time was not in stock. Wait until the madness dies down.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 11/04/2021 10:43

It will be appalling. I went in August last year and the queues to get in and pay were dire, and they’d been open for about a month at that point.

Unless all the lights in your house have special IKEA fittings so can only use IKEA brand lightbulbs and the last one has just blown, nothing is urgent enough to brave tomorrow’s queues. Even then I’d consider using candles for a couple of weeks.

peak2021 · 11/04/2021 10:43

You can live without houseplants for a bit longer. Maybe give it until next week when schools are all back.

FlyingBurrito · 11/04/2021 10:44

Unless you have to have a houseplant tomorrow and there's not a single other place to get one why is this even a question Grin

DenisetheMenace · 11/04/2021 10:44

Yep 😁

SchmooobyDoo · 11/04/2021 10:46

Their plants aren’t up to much... Better off spending on good ones that will last.

islockdownoveryet · 11/04/2021 10:46

Give it a couple of weeks.
Last time it was queuing round the car park but a week later no queues .
You’ll see it on the news tomorrow it’s like people don’t learn from last time .

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 11/04/2021 10:46

Mid week in the evening it will probably be fine. I went there for something after the first lockdown was lifted and it wasn't rammed.

Redcrayons · 11/04/2021 10:47

Maybe if you go late-ish. My local is normally open till 10

The houseplants section is rubbish, definitely not worth making a trip and standing outside in the cold for hours.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/04/2021 10:47

I am an absolute ikea loyalist but I don't think I would even attempt that.

DinosaurDiana · 11/04/2021 10:48

Yes you would.

buckeejit · 11/04/2021 10:52

Not just for house plants - try Homebase, I got this lovely plant there last weekend & love it

I went to Edinburgh IKEA yesterday... maybe 10 couples in the queue when we pulled into the car park & 3 by the time we joined the queue, less than 2 minutes & we were in.

Less than 5 minutes in the queue to pay (used self service) longest wait was for the hotdogs on the way out

We were in & out in just over an hour.

lollipoprainbow · 11/04/2021 11:00

I'm desperate to go but am going to wait another few weeks, also I won't be able to have meatballs until after may 17th an essential part of the visit for me !!

GoldRhino · 11/04/2021 11:07

Thanks everybody for confirming I was mental for even considering it!

Houseplants were not my reason for going, just an added bonus as I know they have them and I’m aiming to turn my house into a jungle Grin. Our garden centre has a great selection but I like finding different ones elsewhere.

Leave it for a few days and then you’ll have data rather than our guesses.

Tretchikoff · 11/04/2021 11:13

Went to Edinburgh IKEA last night. Arrived at half six and it was dead.
The had no live plants though only artificial although a good stock of them.

Ikea is open in Scotland? I didn't know that!

We need to go for a bed. We are hoping Tuesday will be quieter.
