Oh fuck. Taken 2 sleeping tablets accidentally

Taken 2 sominex instead of my diabetes meds. (ADHD, disorganised, easily distracted) I take HALF a sominex a night and they knock me out for 8-10.hours. I've just taken four times what I normally take. I'm supposed to be driving 80 miles to my uncle's for his 70th socially distanced gathering. My uncle was given 6 months to live, 13 months ago and due to covid not seem him since Christmas 2019. Argh. I've tried to make myself vomit but can't. Meant be driving my mum too (her brother). Fuck.

Drink some salt water to make yourself sick?

FedNlanders · 11/04/2021 07:46

Oh no. Can someone else drive

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2021 07:46

Oh no, give your mum a call. Could she get a train and taxi?
Sorry about your uncle :(

I assume there's no actual danger to you from taking this much?

Hangingtrousers · 11/04/2021 07:49

Oh no op
111?

WeatherwaxLives · 11/04/2021 07:53

I think you need to phone 111 - do you normally take a very low dose and 2 is within the safe dose? Is it something some people might take 2 of, but they would have to work up to that dose?

You need medical advice, and yes, you definitely can't drive.

LudoBear · 11/04/2021 07:53

I'm not in danger myself, the dosage says 1-2 a night but they are so strong I only need half a tablet. (Insomnia)

I will look at trains but they are a bit shit on Sundays. Only other thing I can think of is to go in a couple of days. My uncle won't mind but my mum will!

You’ll be fine heathwise. Don’t recommend it but I did this fairly often last summer when struggling with severe depression and suffered no ill effects apart from sleeping very well.

The driving is obviously a concern.
I would carry on trying to make yourself vomit or try find alternative transport

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 11/04/2021 07:54

I have no idea if you'd need medical help ? But given they're over the counter & standard dose is 1 tablet I can't see it being a problem

However, you're obviously not going to be able to drive, so call your mum & between you ask around family/friends if anyone can drive you.

I'd drive my close friends

Or taxis & trains.

Sorry, you're in the position & sorry to hear about your uncle, though fantastic he's doing better than his prognosis. I hope you can get there and that you all have a lovely day.

KarenMarlow3 · 11/04/2021 07:55

Definitely leave it for a couple of days, you won't be safe to drive

SuperintendentHastings · 11/04/2021 07:58

You have no option but to go in a couple of days, it's not safe for you to do anything else.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 11/04/2021 07:58

X posted with you & foreverlexicon.

Sounds even more like health wise it won't be a problem, just your mums disappointment. But presumably she knows about your ADHD & she'll understand?!
If you can present another transport option then hopefully she won't be too upset/disappointed.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 11/04/2021 07:59

@SuperintendentHastings

You have no option but to go in a couple of days, it's not safe for you to do anything else.
There are options.

Friends
Family
Trains/Taxis

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2021 08:09

But op is going to be asleep soon surely!

JazzTheDog · 11/04/2021 08:10

It's 40mg Promethazine as the active ingredient (from the patient info leaflet online). I definitely wouldn't drive.

StealthPolarBear · 11/04/2021 08:10

Hwr mum can go but it would seem stupid for op to get on a train!

Atalune · 11/04/2021 08:13

I took 2 nytol by accident and in about 1 hour after taking them I could not get out of bed.

You’ll have to cancel today and sleep. That’s all you’ll be good for. Do it now. Mistakes happen.

imaginethemdragons · 11/04/2021 08:14

Also you mention diabetes meds, do you have stable sugars usually?? Are you on insulin?
If you are going to be out for more than 8 hours, is there someone with you who can check you regularly, check your sugars, and adjust your dosage accordingly...wake you up to eat...

Professionalprocrastinators · 11/04/2021 08:24

How early do you have to leave? You might be ok.

I used to take sominex, I'm also on baclofen for a health condition and they have a strong sedative effect. I'm fine after my usual 8 hours sleep.

LudoBear · 11/04/2021 14:07

Urgh. I wrote out s post and lost it. Have had 3 hours sleep and will go to bed early. Mum went up on train (3 trains!), she will be sleeping in my cousins caravan in the garden! Then ill go collect her tomorrow and visit my uncle.
