It's a book I read in around age 10 - 14.
It's set in America, it's about a young girl who disappeared and when she comes back after x years she is sent to a shrink because she believes she had been living with cave men down in a hole in the ground???
I can't remember her name but her cave man name was Mae/Mai and the caveman leader is called Mako?
Her real life brother is named Paul?
There is something about a tree that gets cut down and she puts it in her room because it wants to come inside. I think they steal a snake from a night club?
I think she goes back to the cave men in the end!
