The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

Are the BBC going to take on board the complaints?
I haven’t watched any BBC channels since 10am this morning. Is it safe to do so yet?

AppleDolphin · 10/04/2021 13:54

@Haydugi

WTF is wrong with people?

History in the making and people moaning about missing pointless Confused

This!

For the love of god, is that all people have to complain about??? Get a fucking grip!

Also not saying that there shouldn’t have been coverage; of course there should. But there should be a choice, and yesterday (on the BBC at least) that choice, other than switching off entirely, was taken away.

Dedicating one channel entirely to tribute programmes is one thing, and totally fine in my book; showing exactly the same thing across several channels on a loop (plus dreary music on every radio station) tips over into propaganda territory.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 10/04/2021 13:54

@AlexaShutUp

Do people's lives really revolve that much around what's on TV?!

It would seem so!

TV... Social media... Mumsnet - there are myriad things that people's lives appear to revolve around.
jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 13:55

TV is back to normal this evening anyway so it hasn't killed any of us to have the box swamped yesterday.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 13:55

Neverdropyourmooncup, l agree with you! The BBC mainly has shite.

East Enders, Top Gear, endless boring cooking shows and game shows.

I hope they learn from this for when the Queen dies

I doubt it. Will be even worse.

YellowPurple · 10/04/2021 13:56

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Maybe the protocol needs updating then?

.............................................

Update protocol???

Do you actually understand what it is?

They dont change it, its made to be like this 😬🙈

I agree with this.

I don’t watch broadcast tv anyway but the radio situation is dire and still going

peridito · 10/04/2021 13:57

Can someone give me a link to THE PROTOCOL ? Or is it set in tablets of stone and not digitally available ?

Didn't St Phillip have a good lady friend that he shared a cosy abode with on the Norfolk estate ? I wonder how she's doing .

And I also wonder how anyone who has recently lost someone is doing ? Will they find this endless coverage and sanctification adds to their distress ?

Nohomemadecandles · 10/04/2021 13:57

@Devlesko

I don't think we should honour somebody like him for what he stood for and what he was. I hope he RIP but was there this fuss about Jimmy Saville and the likes.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 13:57

I understand what a protocol is. And if this ‘protocol’ was set up when the BBC was set up it needs changing.

Protocols can be changed.

It will be 100 times worse.
Here's this link again. Worth reading.

www.businessinsider.com/what-happens-when-queen-elizabeth-ii-dies-king-charles-2018-6?r=US&IR=T

'The death of Queen Elizabeth will be one of the most disruptive events in Britain in the past 70 years'

And no, it is not an anti royalist article. Just factual really and an interesting read

I8toys · 10/04/2021 13:58

We truly are a nation of complainers.

OppsUpsSide · 10/04/2021 13:58

Well if it wasn’t this I’m sure you’d find something else to complain about.

ElephantsNest · 10/04/2021 13:58

I wouldn’t complain as it feels disrespectful whilst his family are grieving, but I also have some sympathy with the view that when people buy a TV Licence they are paying for a service with the reasonable expectation that they will be able to access what they paid for.

UrAWizHarry · 10/04/2021 13:59

"For at least 12 days — between her passing, the funeral and beyond — Britain will grind to a halt."

What a fucking joke.

babbaloushka · 10/04/2021 14:00

They got loads of backlash after the Queen Mother died because there wasn't enough coverage and were called unpatriotic, I think they're trying to avoid the same. Ridiculous though, very hyperbolic.

Siepie · 10/04/2021 14:00

I watched some of the coverage on BBC1. I thought it was quite interesting... then that same coverage carried on all evening. On BBC1, 2, News and Parliament - even the most devoted royalist can’t possibly have been watching four channels at once!

A 99 year old dying peacefully will change half a line in the history textbooks, from “Prince Philip (b. 1921)” to “Prince Philip (1921-2021)”. Events like the announcement of the first lockdown, which actually have a massive impact on the population, didn’t cause BBC 4 to be taken off air!

TheVampiresWife · 10/04/2021 14:01

It's not really about being upset that MasterChef was postponed. Or that we couldn't watch yet another rerun of TOTP from 1981.

It's about how all this grovelling forelock tugging makes us look as a country, particularly at a time when hundreds of thousands are dealing with their own grief, privately.

I'm sorry the Queen has lost her lifelong companion. She must be heartbroken. But the same content over four or five channels is just embarrassing.

Nohomemadecandles · 10/04/2021 14:01

@Roussette

I must tell the 90 year old I speak to every week to load up her kindle or watch netflix or one of the other channels. Not even sure if she has freeview to be honest.
How else can she watch TV? It's only digital isn't it, now?
TheVampiresWife · 10/04/2021 14:01

even the most devoted royalist can’t possibly have been watching four channels at once!

Exactly!

Hallyup5 · 10/04/2021 14:02

I have no problem with back to back programmes dedicated to Prince Philip, but on every channel is ridiculous. Do they think people can watch two channels at once? People do know how to work a remote, if they're interested.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 10/04/2021 14:02

Well I've now got the choice of some rugby league game on BBC 1 or Flog It on BBC 2.

I'd be happy to complain about that!
