Tbf though when Diana died it was shocking ,she was only 36 ,in a car accident so I can understand why there was more coverage ,but a 99 year old very frail in poor health man not so much ,I don't think it needs every channel dedicated to it ,one fair enough ,I can't recall the coverage when the Queen Mother died was it like this ?

Cheap TV as they obviously had all the footage ready to go.
I’m another one also amazed that anyone watches live TV these days. We haven’t had a TV licence for a fews years and haven’t missed it at all.

1997 was utterly batshit crazy. Watching people lose their minds over someone they'd never met was just insane. Yes, it was very very sad but the level of upset people went to was just ridiculous.

I was in America when Diana died. People there kept coming up to me to offer their condolences as if it was a member of my family who had died. It was rather awkward as I was only as sad as I would be about any random mother of young children dying.
