Radio 2 this evening

As all of us regular R2 listeners know, Ken Bruce is off on holiday this week as he is in every school holiday and half term.

So that's a bit awks as he, as R2's probably most popular and senior presenter, has apparently pre-recorded the "Duke of Edinburgh has died" show.

As it was just mainly melancholy songs (small lol at Christina Aguilera's Beautiful) with links and no features, was it really necessary to have a pre-recorded show, couldn't they have carried on with the usual, albeit toned down, live broadcasts?

Or have they actually dragged KB away from holiday and does he have a clause in his contract which allows that?

It was bizarre. Sad FM we turned into it off.

No idea if it was prerecorded. I don't think it was but can't say why. Yes it was sad and cheesy at the same time. I turned it off.

I thought it was some nice and perfectly pitched. I think it was live because he tripped over his words a few time and surely they would have re-recorded the errors.

I thought it was live, I think he was pulled off holiday. I’m guessing it was already planned.

He mentioned some current news so it couldn't have been pre-recorded. They must've pulled him in.

Goodness, Ken made to work on holiday? Perhaps I need to re-listen.

I'd be surprised if he was forced to do the show. He has his studio set up at home and he lives and breathes radio so imagine he'd be happy to do a special show like this.

Oh ive missed KB. I really hate the change of presenters during holidays (I understand they are entitled to leave but they do fuck up the day as their voices set the day up for us at work😂)

We had to switch off yesterday as it was too dire. We love R2 as it perks us up but we switched to Capital and I didn’t know the songs....... i feel old.

The whole schedule is reorganised today as well. No Lisa Tarbuck tonight Not sure I can do a whole day of peaceful sad songs

I quite enjoyed the eulogy programme that was on around 4,-5 as i was driving home from work was really interesting look into his life

Classic fm also doing a day of pared down music

We are in 8 days of mourning...surely radio2 will pick up more energy before that?

If anyone is listening to Claudia right now, can you tell me the name of the first song she played? It was a soppy old piano instrumental, which I think was a theme tune to a TV series maybe? Quite fancy learning to play it!
