Twitter-gate: unpleasant tweet about Prince Philip

I’ve stumbled upon a Twitter war following a tweet by @unisonwestberks
Lots of people kicking off and calling the union scum and cunts...
I’m a member of the union. What do people think?

I think that the union have made themselves look like total knobs. I also hate it when people reply to any criticism of their tweets/Facebook status etc with a correction of someone's spelling and/or grammar. It just makes you look pedantic rather than supporting your argument. Am quite surprised though that such a large union decided to post such an unpleasant tweet.

SiliconHeaven · 09/04/2021 19:22

Just one keyboard warrior, not the whole union.
Would you leave if you saw this?

I'd complain higher up personally. If they defended it, then yes, I'd think very carefully about whether I wanted to remain a member. If they condemned it, then I'd stay.

korawick12345 · 09/04/2021 19:25

Yes I would leave the union. That’s the only thing they would understand.

Moonwhite · 09/04/2021 19:26

If they're useful to be a member of I wouldn't cut your nose off to spite your face. If they were dissing your granddad I would understand, but twitter isn't the place to go for mourning Price Philip.

SiliconHeaven · 09/04/2021 19:26

Good answer Sally, thank you

Unison has responded.

It makes the union look rather unprofessional tbh

korawick12345 · 09/04/2021 19:30

Weak response- their name is on the Twitter handle. They should be publicly chucking the person responsible out of the union at the minimum

PatchworkElmer · 09/04/2021 19:38

This is in very poor taste, I’d be appalled if an organisation I’d paid to be a member of put out a tweet like this.

SallySycamore · 09/04/2021 19:41

It isn't just the content of the tweet either, it's the fact that one of their branch secretaries (I presume?) thought it was in any way appropriate to tweet that from the Unison account.

User5747384 · 09/04/2021 19:43

Wow someone needs sacking there.
Really unprofessional and poor taste.

grapewine · 09/04/2021 19:46

That's such poor taste and a weak response.

dangermouselovespeanutbutter · 09/04/2021 19:47

I wouldn't leave the union because one individual posted something offensive. That's just overkill.
I don't necessarily disagree with the tweet, but it's not something I'd say in public.

grapewine · 09/04/2021 19:47

Exactly. Really bad judgement.
MarshaBradyo · 09/04/2021 19:48

That is bad

IhateBoswell · 09/04/2021 19:52

Ouch. Very unprofessional.

ASchuylerSister · 09/04/2021 19:53

Wow. That’s pretty shitty.

MaudTheInvincible · 09/04/2021 19:55

The tweet's still up, so unison either aren't trying very hard to get it deleted or aren't in control of the messages coming out of accounts making use of their branding. This tweet and the response don't inspire confidence in the union's professionalism if I'm honest.

ChristinaYang10 · 09/04/2021 19:59

I agree it looks unprofessional. Regardless of whether you agree with the sentiment or not, posting it from a work account is very poor judgement.

MiddleParking · 09/04/2021 20:01

It’s just stupid, like a kid who hasn’t managed to work out context yet. Save your edgy jokes for your own Twitter account.

ChristinaYang10 · 09/04/2021 20:01

What makes it look worse is the Twitter spats the account is now getting involved in.

EveWasReframed · 09/04/2021 20:07

I think it's pretty cowardly to express such sentiments on the day somebody dies tbh.

There's something cheap about it, especially doing on Twitter.

Hotcuppatea · 09/04/2021 20:24

I think its terrible and they need to put some adults in charge of their twitter account. And I say that as a republican.

peak2021 · 09/04/2021 21:06

I am glad to read the response tweeted on the main Unison twitter account.
