Anyone up? Could do with a handhold

My uncle, who has a high level spinal injury, has been taken into hospital by ambulance tonight. My gran has gone with him, me and mum (we all live together) are still at home. His blood pressure went through the flirt, mum reckons massive urine infection (she’s a nurse, grab us a retired nurse). She says he’ll be ok and is in the best place.

I’ve no medical background, and I’m scared, because of COVID.

Oh for goodness sake! His blood pressure went through the FLOOR! Stupid phone, or stupid me, not entirely sure which right now.

I’ve no medical background but if your mum is right , then antibiotics will hopefully get the infection under control pretty quickly .
I hope your uncle will be ok , I’m sorry you are so worried .

Not knowing is so scary. But urine infections are treatable and getting help by professionals he will have the best chance of being looked after. Doctors can perform miracles these days. Once you know what's going on you will feel better. Really hope you and your family get through and have good health xx

Don’t be too scared because of COVID. It’s in decline.
The hospital is where he needs to be.
Hand hold!

AtrociousCircumstance · 09/04/2021 00:15

Hand hold here! Sending positive vibes to you and your family.

Frownette · 09/04/2021 00:18

Don't panic; he's in the best place now. Sending best wishes

LollipopViolet · 09/04/2021 00:19

Thanks folks, I am a worrier by nature so this is just horrible. I am going to try and sleep, have to get up for work at 7, thankfully working from home.

The number of patients that are in the NHS currently are really low. All hospitals have separate wards for covid patients..

If it's a UTI, he'll be given antibiotics and sent on his way.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/04/2021 00:38

Hospitals are split into red and green sides. I hope you get some sleep.

💐. Thinking of you and your beautiful family. Think your mum will be right. Let us know how you all get on Lovely x

jessstan2 · 09/04/2021 05:26

I'm sure the medics will find out what is wrong with your uncle and treat it promptly, Lollipop. Hopefully he will be home again before long. Keep us up to date with his progress.

Do try to relax, there's nothing you can do.

Thank you for the reassurance - I did not know about the hospital set up. Well, I did know there’s be some separation etc but I’ve spent the past year trying to keep him safe from the virus, it worried me a lot in the heat of the moment.
There’s some other reasons I’m concerned due to my uncle’s previous experience at that hospital, and their knowledge of spinal injuries, but he is in the best place and I know that. He’s got his mum, a retired nurse of 40 years and general force to be reckoned with, to advocate.

I’ve had about 4 hours sleep, and I’m wide awake. Today is going to be interesting!

Is your grandma staying at the hospital with him? Hope you can focus at work today!

LollipopViolet · 09/04/2021 06:56

Yes, she went in the ambulance with him, and she’s not back yet. My poor mum has had zero sleep, so we’re a very tired family right now.

I’m going to speak to work, I normally take inbound phone calls but I’m going to see if I can do some admin today. They’re usually quite good at looking after us.

Do you mean went through the ceiling? Or hit the floor? One means it went high, the other low!

LollipopViolet · 09/04/2021 08:35

Sorry, bad wording on my part. It went so low the paramedics couldn’t get a reading :(

He’s had IV antibiotics and 2 CT scabs of his head, to make sure there’s nothing sinister that caused the blood pressure issue.

You sound like a lovely, caring family, Lollipop. I really hope uncle recovers well and is soon back home with you all.

LollipopViolet · 09/04/2021 17:03

My gran has been called back to the hospital :( The words “he’s not well” have been used.

Now we wait. When we got this call with my granddad, he never came home :(

I'm so sorry, Lollipop. How old is your uncle? I imagine he is not that old as his mother is still alive and well.

LollipopViolet · 09/04/2021 20:20

He’s 54, so quite young. Update: he’s ok, he became unresponsive again due to his blood pressure going low, and the hospital called, thinking it was a rapid deterioration.

As well as the urine infection he has a clot on his left leg, they’re treating both so I’m a bit more relaxed. Work were amazing today and I’m so grateful for that.

Plan is an early night for all of us :)

Just an update.

After an up and down week, yesterday my uncle was put into an induced coma and is now on a ventilator due to a sudden deterioration.

:(

Oh Lollipop, so sorry to hear that. Sending Flowers for you and your lovely family

TheCanyon · 17/04/2021 22:34

I'm so sorry lollipop, hopefully he's on the mend soon. The infection and clot just maybe too much for his body to deal with atm. Sending you much love

PembrokeshireDreaming · 17/04/2021 22:39

♥️💐

SomebodyThatIUsedToKnow3 · 17/04/2021 22:43

I hope the induced coma helps and he recovers.
