So MN it is...

I am officially out of debt

I paid my last payment to Stepchange today. I have been on a DMP for years trying to claw my way out of £23k worth of debt.

No one in RL knew how bad it was, so I feel I can't celebrate with anyone. I just wanted to share it somewhere. Not a brag, it's my own fault for getting in so deep, and it's a long way until my credit score will recover but I am very proud of myself and feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

Well Done You. I hope you treat yourself to something nice, you've earned it.

I'm just going to say one thing - please check with enormous care you keep really careful control of any possible outstanding debts stepchange may have missed. My DP had a similar debt with Stepchange and thought she'd paid it all off. They sent her an email saying she had. I told her to check and double check and she didn't; she also failed to update her address with them. So it's entirely her fault ... but, it turned out she owed a few more hundred that Stepchange had lost track of, and all the paperwork went to Stepchange and to her previous address, and Stepchange never contacted her about it.

I am absolutely not excusing her for failing to update her address (indeed I'm steaming angry). I'm sure you're much more responsible. Just saying - keep an eagle eye out for any unpaid remnants of the debt!

That's amazing, well done OP! Not quite a big of an achievement as yours but over the past 18 months we've managed to clear £9k of credit card debt that we had just been transferring between 0% interest cards for the last ten years, it is such a good feeling :)
