Not the kind of good news I can share in real life, but I need to tell someone!

So MN it is...

I am officially out of debt Smile

I paid my last payment to Stepchange today. I have been on a DMP for years trying to claw my way out of £23k worth of debt.

No one in RL knew how bad it was, so I feel I can't celebrate with anyone. I just wanted to share it somewhere. Not a brag, it's my own fault for getting in so deep, and it's a long way until my credit score will recover but I am very proud of myself and feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

@Timeisavirtue

I endured a bit of debt (8k) 8 years back. I’m not proud of it but it happened and I too used stepchange. I paid it off pretty quickly as work picked up and as part of it was DP he paid some too. I now have a very good credit score, fairly high to be honest. I’ve able to secure some hard to get credit cards which I’ve paid off before the interes5 free runs out. It’s a good feeling. Well done you 😊
Congratulations for getting out of it. Stepchange have been beyond amazing, I recommend them to anybody who might be reading this and feeling this will never be them. They changed everything for me!

This is brilliant! I'm about a third of the way through my DMP and it's massively improved my life. I can't wait to be where you are! Congratulations!

GroggyLegs · 08/04/2021 22:34

Fantastic work!

You should be so proud of yourself for taking control to get yourself back on an even keel.

That's an awesome achievement.

Neotraditional · 08/04/2021 22:34

Fantastic news! Absolutely brilliant that you’ve managed to do this, you should feel proud Flowers

Wwwomble · 08/04/2021 22:34

That’s brilliant. Very well done. You should be extremely proud of yourself that you took the first difficult step, and every subsequent step. I don’t mean that in a patronising way. My husband was in £xxxxx debt when we got together and got through it. He now has a really good attitude to money.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 08/04/2021 22:35

I love threads like this, bloody well done! Flowers

Brilliant, brilliant news. It feels SO good. I worked two jobs (in the days when it was easy to get two jobs) to get out of debt decades ago. I will never forget the first time a pay cheque came into my account and it was all mine. It didn't get swallowed up immediately by an overdraft and late payment charges. It was bliss. Enjoy it. You have done something so liberating. Incredible achievement.

Babygotblueyes · 08/04/2021 22:36

Brilliant news - good for you. That is a real achievement, hope you feel very proud of yourself.

That’s the best thing I’ve read on here in a long long time. I’m grinning for you and I might even be welling up slightly!

You should be so proud of yourself. Well done x

I keep thinking about this! haven't had my first all for me payday yet, but it's this month, I'm NHS staff and this is the month we're all getting our £735 bonus for working through the pandemic, usually any extra money from anything would go towards my debt but I can actually treat myself for the first time in a long time Grin
