Not the kind of good news I can share in real life, but I need to tell someone!

So MN it is...

I am officially out of debt Smile

I paid my last payment to Stepchange today. I have been on a DMP for years trying to claw my way out of £23k worth of debt.

No one in RL knew how bad it was, so I feel I can't celebrate with anyone. I just wanted to share it somewhere. Not a brag, it's my own fault for getting in so deep, and it's a long way until my credit score will recover but I am very proud of myself and feel like a huge weight has been lifted.

Captaincavegirl · 08/04/2021 22:42

Brilliant news!! Well done. We’ve got ongoing debt on credit cards and overdraft that we’re slowly paying off. I’m so keen to be able to right the same post you have. Super well done!

DPotter · 08/04/2021 22:43

TheChosenTwo · 08/04/2021 22:48

That’s wonderful news op, you should be really proud of yourself for working hard to pull yourself out the other side.
I’ve seen people slide into huge depths of debt, the weight of it has caused some of them to go to really dark places with the worry of it all.
What a success, I hope you treat yourself to some lovely with your bonus (that should be more but that’s probably a rant for another thread Grin )! Do you know what you’re going to get?!

Natsel84 · 08/04/2021 22:50

Congratulations 🥳 that’s brilliant news! Brag away, you have every right. It doesn’t matter how you got into debt. What does matter is your determination and drive to get out of it. It couldn’t have been easy but look at you now.

The credit rating will start to improve. Trust me I’ve been there. First it’ll stay rock bottom for ages then once it starts moving up it’s much quicker to get a decent score. All the best

Smokeahontas · 08/04/2021 22:55

Well done! I’ve been in this boat too. It will take a while for your CR to calm down but it will eventually.

AliceMcK · 08/04/2021 22:57

Congratulations, been there, some my own doing, some not. It’s so easy to loose control, even for the most sensible of people, there are so many variables that can impact a persons life.

Don’t feel ashamed. Now your free you can be open and proud of all your hard work.
Well done OP!

usedandabusedx1000 · 08/04/2021 22:59

Congratulations @EllisRoses I need to make the first step, I am currently living in utter fear sand the anxiety is crippling. I hope one day I can say the same as you, I can only begin to imagine how amazing the feeling is 👏🏻

That is amazing congratulations 🎉 you should be so proud of yourself 💐

QuitMoaning · 08/04/2021 23:02

This was me 10 years ago. Luckily I did have one friend who knew most of it and on the day it all went I popped round to hers with a bottle of champagne to thank her for the moral support.
My partner helped me significantly, emotionally and practically and he organised my finances for me, even though we had only just got together. Now 10 years on, we have just paid off our mortgage and my credit score is 999. Unless you have been there it is difficult to explain the terror of opening the post.
