Sports bra for swimming

Hi I’m after some advice on suitable sports bras to wear under a tankini for swimming? For various reasons an underwired tankini isn’t suitable and a tankini on its own isn’t supportive enough. I thought a sports bra under a tankini might provide more support but still be comfortable.

I use a non-wired sports bra under a rash vest top in the pool. I find it much better fitting and supportive than even bra sized swimwear (large cup sized) and easy to get on and off. I prefer the extra coverage too.

Shock absorber Run or Multisport are relatively thin and I've used both for swimming straight after a run.

Thank you! Any recommendations for rash too too?

This is a good idea. Following for any more suggestions.

I’ve looked up the shock absorber bras and they have a traditional bra fastening at back. Any recommendations for sports bra that doesn’t have bra fastening so not obviously a bra? Obviously doesn’t matter for under a rash vest but yet to find a rash vest that isn’t tight fitting and too tight for larger chest

Shock absorber do front zip fastening bras too?

For anything to be supportive not will need the bra back fastening?

RedTen · 08/04/2021 18:19

I looked up Shock Bra too but it only goes up to a G cup.

I wear a sports swimming costume, is that an option? It's not cupped or wired but it is reasonably high necked and compresses me enough that there's no danger of any movement. I have normal swimming costumes as well but they're always a little terrifying that something will fall out. It's actually surprisingly flattering as well. I'd imagine to get a sports bra not to show under a tankini you'd need a pretty high neck one so a sporty cozzie might work?

Some companies sell sports bras that are designed to be worn in the water. Lots of them list as "gym to swim" so that's a good search term for Google.

Haven't bought any yet so can't recommend companies but there is a big range in how supportive they look.

The Elomi swim range includes swim bras although they are more like a normal bra than a sports bra. They have a bikini style plastic fastener at the back but are underwired and cup/back sized. They also design their swimwear to cover their swim bras. It's a bit pricey but there is often old stock on eBay or the lingerie sale sites.

Thank you for ideas. I will look up gym to swim. It’s not for me but don’t think sports swimming costumes come in large enough sizes to fit everything under the mesh panel. It’s ok if sports bra shows but just trying to avoid it looking like bra. Managed to find a bikini top that does the job but imagine a sports bra may feel more secure. Have to avoid underwires for now .

Mountain warehouse do ladies rash vest up to size 20. ( and they are very stretchy!)

GirlofInkandStars · 08/04/2021 18:28

Lots of rash vests from the surfer brands do come up a bit smaller.

DianaT1969 · 08/04/2021 18:36

I have a thin orange racer back sports bra from M&S which looks ideal. But it's difficult to get on and off when dry. Would be far worse wet. Elomi used to do swim bras if that helps.
Pour Moi and Fantasie had good bra sized tankinis if you do go back.

pickaxer · 08/04/2021 21:55

I wear a bikini top under a sports swimming costume and no I don't care whether it looks funny, I always have to avoid nipple showing ( a big issue weirdly for me.) I agree the Speedo costume I have is very compressing and flattering, even though DH says it's fugly, but it's for swimming not sunbathing.

moochingtothepub · 08/04/2021 22:01

I'm not small and I have a cup sized swimming costume from bravissimo

Changechangychange · 08/04/2021 22:06

Have you looked at Bravissimo? I’m a 32G, and get all of my swimming stuff from there (I do long distance swims, so they get a fair amount of use).

LadyofMisrule · 08/04/2021 23:05

I wear an ordinary Sainsburys crop-top style bra under a stretchy sports t-shirt for swimming. I prefer a t-shirt and a pair of running leggings to a swimsuit. (Most of my swimming is in lakes and rivers rather than a pool.)

Janet335 · 09/04/2021 18:52

Thanks. Can’t do underwired so bravissimo is out. All sorted now thanks. Help much appreciated.
