Today I could NOT STOP EATING! Anyone else have days like this?

I'm not in the UK and it's evening here. Feeling weirdly impressed but also horrified by the amount of junk I ate today- and thought I'd write it down here in the hope that I'm not alone in having the odd day where I become a human dustbin Blush

For breakfast, a hot cross bun and a piece of toast with peanut butter and a cup of tea

Half a tube of Pringles
A packet of sour jelly sweets
A burger with salad and an ice cream sundae for lunch (out - no lockdown where we are)
A banana and another cup of tea
A piece of bread and butter
Half a bowl of pasta with pesto
Some raspberries
A small bowl of greek yoghurt with maple syrup

SO MUCH FOOD. And it was nearly all carbs! Not sure what came over me...

Anyone have random days like this? (I'm hoping it isn't just me)

I'm actually reading Overcoming Binge Eating. It's really good

Secretlifeofme · 08/04/2021 14:07

Oh, so you think that counts as binge eating? :( I thought it was just a day of overeating. It is pretty rare for me - maybe once every few months?

Doesn't sound like binge eating to me, it's not even a massive amount of food. Most people have days where they eat more than others (I do!), and it's fine as long as we don't do that every single day.

I don't think that's too bad really, it just looks worse when listed like that, but if you had put some of it together, such as Greek yogurt with banana and raspberries for example, it sounds like fewer meals therefore perfectly ok!

No that doesn't sound like binge eating then. Just from your OP sounded like maybe it was something regular but that's probably just how I read it
Secretlifeofme · 08/04/2021 14:14

I don't think that any combination of jelly sweets and Pringles would make them sound ok though @CatFacePoodle!

Yes I was like the hungry caterpillar yesterday

WhiteBricks · 08/04/2021 14:15

I have days like this which 100% are due to my cycle. I can just eat and eat, and it's carbs I crave. I wake up in the night to eat too, usually chocolate Blush

WonkyCactus · 08/04/2021 14:16

Yep, currently having my second lunch. It's definitely not just you!

fizbosshoes · 08/04/2021 14:16

I often eat all the food in the house a lot the day before my period comes. Every time it takes me by surprise. I have a day where I'm outrageously hungry and therefore eat more than normal, and feel appalled...next day AF arrives....but I literally never think, ah I'm hungry it must be my period due!Blush

emmathedilemma · 08/04/2021 14:16

I do but it's usually linked to a significant amount of exercise a day or two before.
You've had next to no protein all day so you've probably been spiking and crashing your blood sugar from all the carbs.

UselessTrees · 08/04/2021 14:17

Usually the day before or first day of my period is when I become a bottomless pit. I like to think I'm just responding to my body's needs (for crisps and biscuits).

Secretlifeofme · 08/04/2021 14:17

Hmm @WhiteBricks, maybe it's related to my cycle? I don't get periods because I have a coil, so it's hard to tell

"Junk food" or highly palatable food high in carbs, fat and sugar and salt can set off this type of binge. I think it gets your hormones messed up and you start to have cravings and feel hungry even though you don't really need food. It's fine if it's only occasionally but if you do this regularly it becomes a problem.

Secretlifeofme · 08/04/2021 14:19

You're right @emmathedilemma, (good name by the way) I haven't had much protein at all! Oops. Eggs for breakfast in the morning i think!

TheVanguardSix · 08/04/2021 14:20

That's not binge eating! That's just slightly- ever so slightly- overeating because of the 'junk'. And even then, it's not so bad at all, OP.
If you lost the Pringles and the sweets and the ice cream sundae, that would actually be a totally balanced day of eating (and it's not like we eat burgers every day). I quite often eat as much as you (without the 'junk' in between) and I'm slim. I wouldn't consider that too much food at all. Don't be hard on yourself! Flowers Binge eating it is not!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/04/2021 14:25

Yes, two different reasons.

I used to be like this 2 days before my period, but not until I was in my 40's. It was useful once I hit Keri menopause and periods were all over the place. It was a goid warning sign (though it took a while to associate the two as my period was two days later)

Second one is I'm diabetic and I eat very low carb, but if I eat carbs (Christmas/Easter) then I'm like a bloody Labrador!

There's no reason to assume you've got a binge eating problem.

ThatOtherPoster · 08/04/2021 14:29

You call that an impressive amount of food? Pffft. Amateur.

Bookworm19 · 08/04/2021 14:38

Yep, definitely have days like this. Either its linked to my menstrual cycles or have a few days of low appetite (when I'm anxious/stressed).

Appetite ebbs and wants. Honour it Smile

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2021 15:18

Did you sleep badly last night? I always eat constantly when I'm tired.
