15 "staple" items missing from the online shopping?

Crunchymum · 08/04/2021 09:01

Is this a record?

It includes milk (they had no alternatives for any milk - we had blue, green and red ordered, as well as soya and none is going to arrive!!!)

No sausages at all either apparently.

Nor any vegetables. I ordered various things and they've not even sent a mixed bag of veg or even frozen veg?

No apples or Bananas (and again no alternatives available)

No mince, no steak, no chicken breast.

So off to the shop it is, with the 3 kids.

Not impressed Sainsburys!!!

Yeah I had this with Morrisons, it annoys the shit out of me! You spend money to have shopping delivered and then have to make a trip to the supermarket anyway. Very annoying. I wonder if its worth emailing them.

Crunchymum · 08/04/2021 09:03

My substitution list is up to date and I'm happy for substitution on most things apart from a few (all of which are ironically are being delivered!!)

I've definitely not had that many! If I get missing items rather than substitutions it's because I've ordered something like Lego or stuff for the house rather than groceries. They surely had milk and veg!!

Tescos here... 2 weeks in a row, stuff I've ordered just not there. Fed up. This week, no milk, eggs, bread and no substitution, despite my instruction in the subs box that any milk/eggs/white bread will do. Getting fed up.

PsychoSyd · 08/04/2021 09:07

Yep, happens all the time with us with Sainsbury's. Put the order in, then on the morning of delivery, the email arrives telling me that some items are unavailable. Every. Single. Delivery.

Crunchymum · 08/04/2021 09:07

You can't even email Sainsburys any more. They took away that option so you either call, tweet or go through the online help options.

Took me a week to get a refund when they didn't deliver any of my fridge goods (DP took the order in, didn't realise £40 of stuff was missing!)

Overall I like Sainsburys and have used them for years but the incidents of crapness from them are stacking up.

It used to drive me mad when they substituted puppy food for the same brand in adult version instead of another puppy food. Always resulted in a trip to the shop where they had the original one anyway!

popcorndiva · 08/04/2021 09:13

I got this with Tesco. Never delivered any bread, ebery delivery was the same. So I stopped getting deliveries at the start of Jan lockdown tried again last week and it was the same situation.

So now I click and collect with Sainsburys. Currently 26 weeks pregnant and shops make me dizzy after 10 minutes inside so this way I can collect shopping in car park and quickly run inside but so far only thing was subbed was tortilla chips.

blueangel19 · 08/04/2021 09:18

All my shopping have come fine. I do not order meat only sometimes chicken.

EventuallyDistracted · 08/04/2021 09:21

I do click and collect every week with Sainsburys and also run in to pick up any missing items (our is picked from a different store). I've never had staples missing though, it's usually one-off things (and rare to be completely missing unless I have said no subs for that item).

I've also found the call centre very efficient when I've rung them.

troppibambini6 · 08/04/2021 09:21

I had this with Asda a few weeks ago. It's so annoying.

JingsMahBucket · 08/04/2021 09:21

That’s really bad. I wonder if it’s due to the time of day and week when you’re ordering or rather when they’re filling your order. If you’re repeating the same day, try a different time and day.

I was also going to suggest click and collect like @popcorndiva. I’ve been doing those with Waitrose and only once, this Sunday, have items not been available. And still, those were only strawberries, some ice cream, and a box of tissues out of about 50 items. I figured it was the Easter Sunday busyness and backyard parties that caused the brief shortage.

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/04/2021 09:39

That’s crazy not to have bread and milk, I find their online customer services quite good though, it’s worth contacting them.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/04/2021 09:39

We get Tesco deliveries twice a week and occasionally get substitutions or short dates, but never any problems like this.

If you are getting this regularly is it maybe the time slot you have is before shelves are restocked? (no excuse I know)

I would call customer services to discuss. I have had a store manager call me before after I called customer services and asked for help as I was getting undeclared short dated fish which they refunded (but let me keep) every week, the store manager spoke to the picker and it never happened again.

Babdoc · 08/04/2021 09:40

I’ve never had a problem with Sainsbugs. They email me a day or so in advance to let me know if they’re out of anything and let me choose alternatives.
So far, that has just meant two 12 packs of Weetabix when they were out of the 24 size, choosing green beans instead of spring greens, getting a different flavour treat for the cat, etc.
They have never failed to deliver basics, and the quality of their meat, fruit and veg is far higher than Tesco. (Where I used to shop pre pandemic as the only supermarket within ten miles of my village.)
The “local” Sainsburys is 20 miles away, and the drivers are always on time despite covering a massive area of Angus, Perthshire and half of Fife - over 2500 square miles!

Crunchymum · 08/04/2021 09:58

Click and collect isn't an option as I have the 3 kids and no car. Same for doing the weekly shop in store as well.

Oh well, it turned up and hour early (I was in the shower!) so plenty of time to pop out.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/04/2021 10:03

I don’t get the 25 hour notice email from Sains!

I just get the email on the delivery day saying most of the items are unavailable. Longley Farm Cottage Cheese is gold dust apparently. Although every local shop manages to stock it.

InDubiousBattle · 08/04/2021 10:26

An hour early too? That's not great either, our deliveries are pretty much always on time.

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/04/2021 10:48

I've noticed past 2 deliveries that there's an awful lot out of stock or unavailable. U mean.loo roll and pasta seems.fine. its stuff like mince that seems to have disappeared.

I have found alternative suppliers of rice flour pasta etc and I've started using a green grover fir fruit and veg so once I've found a different neat supplier that's not too expensive and reasonably high welfare , I'll have reduced my supermarket dependency enough that it's not too much of a problem.

peak2021 · 08/04/2021 11:02

I've only ever had three- 15 sounds a lot.

peak2021 · 08/04/2021 11:03

I wonder if it is because some people will have panicked buy given Easter or a fear of shops being overwhelmed next week when non-essential shops re-open?

Isababybel · 08/04/2021 12:22

Thats very annoying op, i bet the shelves in your local store are loaded up with such items so it makes no sense!!
I have been put off online shopping for a while, last week a quarter of my asda order was ruined by a bottle of detergent that was thrown into a crate so hard it exploded and rendered most of the contents inedible :( there was nothing heavy that it was packed with so was defo the picker not placing it in nicely Angry

Woodpecker22 · 08/04/2021 21:57

I suspect it is brexit/ trade related. There are restrictions on imports plus delays which will be affecting supply chains e.g for mince
