Vaccine caused late or missed period?

ScottishStottie · 08/04/2021 06:08

My period is late, and not sure why. Obviously if still no sign I'll take a test, but with a copper coil in place, i know pregnancy is unlikely (but not impossible)

On the day i was due, i had some light spotting, and very mild cramps, but its completely dissapeared. I normally feel very crampy and sorry for myself, bur nothing at all. Doesnt even feel like its about to start.

Only thing i can think of is I had my covid vaccine a few weeks ago, has anyone else experienced the vaccine having an affect on their cycle and caused a missed period?

Just realised how early it is, might have to be a bit more patient for replies 😂

This are several threads on this with people saying same. Can you please yellow card it?

ScottishStottie · 08/04/2021 06:33

I had seen some threads about people having an earlier than expected period after the jab, hadnt seen any about a missed period. Im currently on day 36 when my cycles are usuallly 28-32 days. I'll give it a few more days, take a test to rule it out, then yellow card it if test is negative.

Please yellow card this even if it’s only a couple of days late, assuming negative test or that af arrives soon.

ScottishStottie · 08/04/2021 06:45

I didnt give it much thought at first when i got the very light spotting as thats normally how it starts, but its just completely dissapeared. No cramps, no signs that its about to start at all. From looking at the records on the tracker app i use, im now 4 days later than my longest cycle.

And yes once ive ruled out pregnancy either with a negative test or a period, I'll report it on yellow card. Dont want to do it yet in case its actually a pregnancy, although i suppose it might be a symptom as well if its stopped the effectiveness of the coil for some reason...? Is that even possible?

Your period is over a week late. You need to take a test rather than speculating (or panicking other people about the vaccine). If you are pregnant, time is really critical, particularly if you do want to stay pregnant but haven’t been taking folic acid, etc.

How old are you? Could it be peri menopause? My cycles have literally been perfect every 28 days my entire adult life. This past year they have gone completely wonky, some months 21 days, some months 36. I’m 40 though, so I think they are just getting a bit weird.

You are well beyond the point you’d get an accurate result on a test, so seems like the sensible thing to do.

blackheartsgirl · 08/04/2021 07:56

My period is also a week late. I've took a test and I'm not pregnant
After my first vaccine I came on 2 weeks early.

My second vaccine. I'm now a week late.

Whats the point in yellow carding it. It will get dismissed like all womens gynae issues do.

I mentioned it to my gynae last week and he told me i was being ridiculous so nope I won't be mentioning at all in future

ScottishStottie · 08/04/2021 08:13

I'll do a test later today when i finish work to rule it out. Yes if i am pregnant i need to act quickly, having copper coil in place causes its own issues so would need to get that removed.

So did a test and it was negative, so can rule that out, i imagine a positive result would have showed by now as im a week late.

Yes !! Mines is usually between day 39 & 42. It came day 54!!! I had no sign what so ever either. Think the AZ messed with me. Keep us updated.

tootyfruitypickle · 08/04/2021 19:16

Whereas mine is never ending after the vaccine !! Arg

ScottishStottie · 08/04/2021 19:18

Glad its not just me. Glad i ruled out pregnancy as it is the usual cause, but was pretty confident it wasnt that.

Only thing thats been different this month is the vaccine (AZ) so i guess its just delayed it!

So thought it was starting yesterday, had more spotting, but its gone again... 🙄

I feel like it might be imminent though which is new so hopefuly it'll start soon.

Mine was a week late after the vaccine - I normally run like clockwork. I knew it was brewing and got pain as I usually would before I start bleeding, but with a week's warning instead of the usual half a day Hmm

WithASpider · 10/04/2021 12:10

I could have written your post OP.

Had my 1st Vaccine in Jan (Pfizer), next period on time, following one a week early and very odd.

2nd Vaccine last week and now I'm 4 days late. My usual cycle is 34 days on the dot, no usual symptoms this month but a bit of spotting.

Copper coil and a negative test here too.

DipSwimSwoosh · 10/04/2021 12:17

I think this is very scary. Enormous amounts of peer pressure to have a vaccine with side effects that are never mentioned.

GlendaNorth · 10/04/2021 12:32

My period is late this month... I haven't had the vaccine. I'm not pregnant and not menopausal. I don't particularly have any answers but I'm just offering an alternative perspective.

FloofyMrDarcy · 10/04/2021 12:34

I had 1st AZ jab on 19 Mar. Period was due 2 days later. 3 weeks on and still no sign. Usually like clockwork. Not currently having sex so no need for me to do pg test. Have yellow carded.

On a thread like this you will hear the experiences of those who have had this side effect. I personally had AZ and my period came exactly on time two weeks later.
ScottishStottie · 10/04/2021 13:10

I dont want to cause any scare mongering or think that anyone should not have the vaccine because of this, i was just looking for people who may have had a similar experience, which i have so thread has worked.

Periods are temperamental at the best of times with many many things that can change our cycle (weight, anxiety, amount of sleep, etc etc etc) so i dont think this is a scary symptom at all. Thats if it actually is connected to the vaccine, it may well not be, could just be a coincidence.

Troyhelena · 10/04/2021 13:15

I’ve heard of this happening a LOT

ScottishStottie · 10/04/2021 19:35

Just in case anyone was interested, my period appears to have finally arrived, a week later than my longest cycle. Maybe the body was too busy processing the vaccine and forgot to trigger the period 😂

(Is it just me that pictures body mechanisms working like the numskulls inside doing all the work...? No? Just me...? 😂)

OP posts:
blackheartsgirl · 10/04/2021 19:41

Now 8 days late and still no sign of it.

I've done 2 tests both negative.

Jh1998 · 23/01/2022 13:14

I haven’t had a period for two months and now have a weird period. I thought I was pregnant but negative blood test at drs. I think it’s my vaccine as well that’s caused it as I’ve heard a lot of people saying the same thing

Wisemensay · 23/01/2022 13:22

This comes up a lot on the conception boards. Both the vaccines and covid itself caused havoc with my cycles.
