Unreasonable annoyance with bins! What about you?

So tonight, I have gone out to my black bin to throw something away and found a mystery black bag in our bins.

Now am a bit of a bin freak. I love recycling, I practice zero waste, I have reusable bin liners. I try and keep my black bin as empty as possible, I get a kick of my weekly routine (I sound incredibly sad, I realise this.)

So tonight's mystery bin bag has (totally unreasonably) really, really annoyed me. Except for the fact I had to then go into the bin and just check what was in the invading bin bag, incase it's a bag of kittens/puppies/drugs/half a million quid.

Unfortunately/fortunately, it was just household rubbish, but then I was annoyed as there's recyclable items in the bag, and now they're going to landfil. THEY'RE IN THE WRONG BIN.

I think it may have been my neighbour, who obviously does have a life and doesn't love her bins as much as me, as they are overflowing this week.

I am so irrationally annoyed... no idea if IABU.
I wish whoever it was had at the very least asked if I minded..

I've wrote this to have a little rant and ask you for any stories from your life that have made you feel irrationally annoyed!

They're just bins. They'll be emptied very soon and the rubbish within will no longer be your problem. I never understand people's obsession with what rubbish goes in their bin.
It's a means of conveying it to the tip 🤷🏻‍♀️

GreyhoundG1rl · 06/04/2021 23:37

Oh, and pawing through the bag to see what was in it?? What did you think was in it?

Happycat1212 · 06/04/2021 23:41

At least it was just one bag. My neighbour completely filled my bin a few weeks ago. Right to the top.

UltimateBlends · 06/04/2021 23:43

Apologies if my post doesn't come over totally as I mean it to, I am actually taking the piss out of myself, I know I really should be so irritated about my bins. They are bins. It hasn't ruined my life or anything, but I am amused at myself got being irrationally irritated.

I obviously didn't paw through the rubbish. I cut up the top of the bag and gave it a shake, had a quick look to make sure there wasn't a dead body or a huge pile of illegal material in the bins... or the aforementioned half a million, which I would quite honestly forgive the dumper for using my bins, in that case Grin

My general household bins is pay by weight so this would really piss me off.

I didnt even look under that bag! I was too surprised at the cheek. There could be MORE bags under that one - in fact likely is, as I hardly had anything in mine, and they're the big, tall, wheelie bin kind. Now I'll never get to sleep. Grin

Are you in Ireland, Sionnach? It's the same for my relatives there, but all the bins lock.

I think you need to get a little perspective. Once bins are put out on the pavement they are up for grabs. Maybe you have a disabled, elderly or sick neighbour who just doesnt feel well enough to be dragging heavy bins in an out. Would you begrudge someone like that to use your bin once? Especially if the contents were neatly tied up, not wet or drippy. That black bag is going to go into the bin waggon along with all the others and no one will know it came from your bin, even of it has the "wrong things" in it.

I absolutely hate bins because they are big, heavy and clumsy. I get my nephew to put them out (as seldom as possible) and only when full to the top.

NiceGerbil · 07/04/2021 02:35

Our bins are in a shared alley.

They get stuffed full of next doors stuff a lot

It's annoying but they're nice so whatever.

I think for you it's a mystery though! So I understand why you're wondering.

Any builders working on your road? Gardeners? Cleaners? Could be anything. Neighbours out of space...

A proper bagged lot of rubbish suddenly is pretty random!

Bin near road or a walk?

Whingey · 07/04/2021 07:04

Twice someone has put clothes in black bags in neighbors wheelie bin. Taken out with note to whom it may concern before being put in my bin

This is definitely not the case, I live in a little row of terrace houses and have lovely neighbours who (usually) communicate very well with us. The houses over the road are also very friendly with us all, it's quite an unusual little community given we are in a built up urban area. All neighbours very able bodied (in fact my older neighbours put my bins back for us and the other terrace houses, as they're out during collection time)

To be honest, I would be harder work to haul the whole bin bag out your house, walk to my bin on the street, lift it up and over into the bins.

If we had a neighbour that was struggling, we or someone on the street would likely know about it. Such is our little community.

Just made bin-gate even more mysterious..

However, I'm hoping that perhaps the people I am suspecting will tell me when they see me...
Means I'll be able to use thier recycling bin in the future, if they want to start bin sharing! LOL!

My guess is the mystery bag has come from overflowing bins of the house next door who love a sibling set in thier 20s.

I get annoyed when DH puts recyclable items in our general waste OP!

We have an issue that if we don't take our bin in quickly enough people put their bagged dog poos in it (live near a popular dog walking spot). Infuriates DH but I guess better than not picking up
