What did you keep hidden from your parents?

OP posts:
BettyOBarley · 06/04/2021 21:50

I hid that I'd started my period. Was embarrassed and didn't feel able to talk to my mum about it. She really shouted at me when she found out as well.

Afolnerd · 06/04/2021 21:53

That I had my nipple pierced!
Oh and a lot of underage drinking.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 06/04/2021 21:53

Food - from diet being controlled and years of being told I was fat. Been really difficult to adjust to a "normal" view of food so I don't mess up DDs!

OctupusObsidian · 06/04/2021 21:53

Sexual abuse
Mental health issues
Alcohol problem
School reports

dobidobidooo · 06/04/2021 21:53

Nothing really

Hellocatshome · 06/04/2021 21:55

Sexual abuse

Chocolateismakingmefat · 06/04/2021 21:55

That I washed my hair every day when she had left for work despite not being allowed to..

That I used to sneak out my window and go see my bf.

LindaEllen · 06/04/2021 21:56

My tampons. My mum thought I only used pads for years in fact she still might, I have no idea 😂.

HairboStrawb · 06/04/2021 21:57

That I had a boyfriend who was 9 years older than me while I was 16. Hid it for 6 months until my cousin told my mum, that boyfriend is almost my DH now!

CthulhuChristmas · 06/04/2021 21:57

That I rarely went to school for a couple of years (would leave home in the morning and spend all day in the library).
That from age 13 I was not 'shopping' on my trips to Central London, but joining various protests.

Jackielaffertyiscold · 06/04/2021 21:58

Drugs, alcohol, under age sex Blush

NerrSnerr · 06/04/2021 21:58

That I started my periods, my mum also shouted when she found out. I also hid I shaved my legs. I never ever told my parents if anything upset me or if I had any problems. I still don't.

CthulhuChristmas · 06/04/2021 21:59

Oh yes, and all school reports/letters, including the parents' evening ones, even before I stopped attending.

BrilliantBetty · 06/04/2021 22:00

Chatting to older boys on the internet (it was the days of MSN so vaguely knew them as cousins of friends or next door neighbour of someone in my class..)
Meeting up with them and lots of snogging.

I also had a boyfriend for about 6months who lived an hour out of London, where I lived and I took a train out of waterloo to visit him sometimes. The journey comprised of a bus, two tubes and then the train. Parents thought I was just at a maters house.

I was 13- 15.

Thoughtcontagion · 06/04/2021 22:01

rainbowthoughts · 06/04/2021 22:01

Mine wasn't interested so she knew nothing about me. The only time she showed any sort of involvement was when she had something to moan about. I did a lot of stupid things, got caught for some of them, but she never once stopped to wonder why - she just made me feel worse. I think it was the toddler 'any attention is good attention' mentality I maintained for many years.

I used to smoke, drink and skip school. I couldn't tell her when I started my period, it was about a year later she raked in my cupboard one day and found a few dirty things. Instead of telling me it was ok and being helpful she just called me disgusting.

I no longer have the brain of a toddler and have been NC for many years

Whatalottachocca · 06/04/2021 22:02

Everything. They were very controlling so the less I told them the better.

needadvice54321 · 06/04/2021 22:02

Sneaking off to a B&B with my older boyfriend aged 16-18 when they thought I was staying at my best mates... Grin

brewdle · 06/04/2021 22:02

I had an abortion and two miscarriages in my teenage years and my parents still don't know.

mermaidsariel · 06/04/2021 22:03

A lot. I didn’t talk to my parents about anything really. They had no idea what I was doing or how I felt and that continued into adulthood.

Summertime21 · 06/04/2021 22:22

A termination and a couple of tattoos

scrivette · 06/04/2021 22:26

That I had a much older boyfriend from the age of 15 (they still don't know about him). That I regularly used to skip school and go out with said boyfriend.
