What MLM product is my mate flogging?

I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks that a uni mate is posting increasing amounts of total bollocks on Facebook. As expected a couple of days ago I got a message “Hey Hun, how are you babe? I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve seen you! I’d love to meet for a chat when restrictions are eased - I’ve got some really exciting news to share with you! ❤️❤️🌸🌈.”

I’m not replying as I don’t want to end up being guilted into buying a load of diet shakes or shitty scented candles or whatever. I can’t work out what she’s selling though. It looks like she’s selling meditation but I didn’t know you could buy that. Books on meditation, maybe?

I’ve (hopefully) attached some of her posts with photos removed. Does anyone know what MLM this is? It’s not important, it’s just irritating me that I don’t know.

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls

Im a mental health nurse and "life coaching" irritates my soul.

Literally in the NHS we ensure that every intervention we use is evidence based so that we are practising safely with people.

Life coaching is literally american Jackanory. One near me charges £90 an hour and it riles me that she makes SO much money from "helping peoples mindsets". Something iv dedicated half my life to and will never ever earn anywhere near what she does for spouting clap trap.

Couldn’t agree more @IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls. I’m a CBT therapist and see some of the damage this high priced tinkering can do. Half of them are not insured and have no idea what they don’t know. Properly trained MH professionals know their limits, have hours of clinical supervision, training etc. I’d rather have you help me with my “mindset” any day than some coach who has downloaded a few slides from the internet.

I'm putting my bet on life coaching.

lborgia · 07/04/2021 00:03

I had a life coach for 2 sessions. She got really irritated because my life was too messy. I couldn't resolve it with a better attitude and a visualisation board.

She didn't mention unwanted pears though, so she was probably a charlatan Hmm

lborgia · 07/04/2021 00:06

^unwashed pears!

JudyGemstone · 07/04/2021 00:19

I’m another MH professional with qualifications in evidence based approaches and very sceptical of ‘life coaching’. I do know a few qualified counsellors who have trained in it, not sure why they felt the need though. Makes me think of Jez from Peep Show!

My guess is juice+ too

I know someone who’s just got into this, not really my place to tell her it’s an MLM but will suggest she has a proper look into it.

notapizzaeater · 07/04/2021 00:20

I reckon Doterra with a side order of juice plus

JM10 · 07/04/2021 00:23

See now I'm wondering if she's actually picked organic fruit in an orchard because I last year picking my apples was stressful. A gang of wasps decided to live inside my apples so I had to pick them very carefully, carry them very slowly to the food recycling, put the lid on and then go back later to let the wasps out. Not at all meditative or relaxing.

Google suggests there might be a meditation MLM called volo?

StormcloakNord · 07/04/2021 00:50

I'd honestly rather shit in my hands and clap than be friends with anyone who spouts this absolute heap of filth on fb.

MLM's can die.

InTheseUncertainTimes · 07/04/2021 08:36

Coaching seems to be the new thing in the MH field even within NHS. Plenty of trusts now employ various types of mental health wellbeing coaches (actual terms may vary), who are pretty much only required to have "listening skills" and some basic certificates (some of which you can get in a week it seems?), but who are sometimes used to support those with fairly complex and longterm needs.

mindutopia · 07/04/2021 10:27

I have a friend who has gotten into this life coaching thing in the past year. She is 'manifesting' wealth and success and can teach you how to 'manifest' it too through self-actualisation. She claims to have 'manifested' her current wealth - in reality, she was broke and on benefits and happened to meet a wealthy landed heir and now they're married and she's in line for some title and has a country manor and like 500 acres. But really all she did was marry a rich guy, which I guess good for her, but that's more luck than life coaching - and not like she has really worked for anything she now has, so. Hmm

@Wearywithteens Much cheaper to just start having some ex-lax chocolate with your normal coffee, and just as effective in actually making you lose any weight (that isn't just shit).

Yes try my “Mellow Birds, Senokot, Capstan Full Strength” weight loss wellness regime and income opportunity Hun.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 07/04/2021 12:29

I have an actual apple tree which I have not sprayed with pesticides - am I sitting on a potential goldmine?

evilharpy · 07/04/2021 12:58

My money is on Doterra. I follow lots of yoga and pilates instructors on insta and there seem to be loads of them flogging Doterra as some sort of sideline, and pushing it as an aid to meditation, getting kids to sleep etc. They also sell blends aimed at children.

I'm a trainee yoga teacher, am quite into meditation and breathwork, and love essential oils and use them a lot - and I despise Doterra (and MLMs in general). I hope nobody ever thinks I'm a hunbot, I'll have to be very clear. Mine usually come from Holland & Barrett!

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 07/04/2021 13:38

@Wearywithteens

“At least it’s not the shit yourself thin coffee.”

Ooh is this a thing? I’d definitely be a sucker for that.

I mean, coffee loosens things up anyway, so if you add loads of artificial sweeteners to it and drink it all day, then you’ll lose some water weight, sure.
Orchidflower1 · 07/04/2021 13:43

@MoonfacedMilksop have you found out anything or are you drowning in a sea of candles/ body shop bubbles/ wax melts/ shampoo/ crystals etc!!

A potential wasps nest more like.
MoonfacedMilksop · 07/04/2021 14:47

No, still no clearer. She’s sent me a screenshot inviting me to an event next month with the attached (marked out location as live in a very identifiable place) Live Well and Thrive brings up an MLM called Thrive Live but they seem to be in the US rather than the UK.

evilharpy do you know anything about aromatherapy by any chance? When I was in Thailand years ago everywhere had oil burners that burned what I think was sandalwood. Whenever I have used sandalwood it’s smelled minging though! Does it need to be mixed with something? The only people I know who would know this are Scentsy Huns and if I show a flicker of interest I’ll never be left alone again.

LeeluTheNarwhal · 07/04/2021 14:54

It sounds like Thrive by Le-Vel. I'm not sure if that's the same as Thrive Life but I've been avoiding someone selling the Le-Vel stuff recently.

SquirtleSquad · 07/04/2021 15:11

I've just found that exact wording in a FB post from 24th March.. will find out who they're flogging hold on..

SquirtleSquad · 07/04/2021 15:13

It's the "tribal wellness movement" which is health and well-being products and wellness programme

SquirtleSquad · 07/04/2021 15:13

But it is a MLM! Do I win!? Grin
