What MLM product is my mate flogging?

MoonfacedMilksop · 06/04/2021 08:05

I’ve noticed over the last couple of weeks that a uni mate is posting increasing amounts of total bollocks on Facebook. As expected a couple of days ago I got a message “Hey Hun, how are you babe? I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve seen you! I’d love to meet for a chat when restrictions are eased - I’ve got some really exciting news to share with you! ❤️❤️🌸🌈.”

I’m not replying as I don’t want to end up being guilted into buying a load of diet shakes or shitty scented candles or whatever. I can’t work out what she’s selling though. It looks like she’s selling meditation but I didn’t know you could buy that. Books on meditation, maybe?

I’ve (hopefully) attached some of her posts with photos removed. Does anyone know what MLM this is? It’s not important, it’s just irritating me that I don’t know.

Upline not uplink

InTheseUncertainTimes · 06/04/2021 20:26

I'm going to guess DoTERRA. It's some essential oil shit, but they go massively for the meditation / mental health angle, I believe.

expectopelargonium · 06/04/2021 20:42

If it's some sort of meditation / life coaching / woo nonsense, just tell her you've found Jesus.

YouokHun · 06/04/2021 20:48

Yes Doterra are fuckers @InTheseUncertainTimes but they have stiff competition from Young Living the other essential oil pyramid scheme. D and YL were both ticked off by the FTC in the USA for both claiming they could cure Ebola back in 2014. Not the claims of some Hun with a GCSE in science but claims from the corporate office. YL’s founder managed to kill his newborn child because he wanted to try out his quasi medical “expertise” during his wife’s water birth and the upshot was he drowned his own child. This is the type of egotist who likes to start a “wellness” pyramid scheme using their own special theories to peddle their snake oil and draw in the dim-witted to do the same. It’s a scandal really.

YouokHun · 06/04/2021 21:13

Also worth watching the Netflix documentary called [Un]well - episode one is about Doterra.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 06/04/2021 21:22

School Arbonne bot posts a lot of shite about organic cucumber juices or some such. It’s not that is it?

BillMasheen · 06/04/2021 21:24

@InTheseUncertainTimes

That’s who I was thinking of.

Mumdiva99 · 06/04/2021 21:24

My money is on Juice Plus. Although you have to find out and let us know....please.

Nohomemadecandles · 06/04/2021 21:27

Oh there's some life coach, affirmation type MLM isn't there?

And UW is 100% mlm !

TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish · 06/04/2021 21:32

@NiceGerbil

I had a look that utility thing looks kosher or is it cleverly disguised?
I think you can trust WHICH reports @NiceGerbil - and I've been a customer for yonks. It's a very reputable energy company.

itstrue · 06/04/2021 21:45

Doterra was my first thought too. You need to let us know when it's revealed!

BillyAndTheSillies · 06/04/2021 21:48

My cousin who skips from MLM to MLM has styled herself as a "wellness coach". Some of the stuff she spouts is incredible, I'd love to know which MLM she's involved with this time but I daren't fall prey to the "inbox me hun" tripe.

PurpleWh1teGreen · 06/04/2021 21:53

Utility Warehouse’s business model is unique, with some customers also working as ‘agents’ to recruit new customers and earning money by doing so

Literally from the article you posted twice theonlykoi

Maraudery · 06/04/2021 22:06

DoTERRA my guess too

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 06/04/2021 22:06

It's coaching. It's all over the place at the minute. Insidious. And woo bullshit.

YouokHun · 06/04/2021 22:19

Any hashtags being used among her friends/on her posts @MoonfacedMilksop. I’ve tracked down a few MLM identities that way.

RubyViolet · 06/04/2021 22:28

Life coaching MLM’s are the next big thing. Mental Health is being monetised , a little like the business that Prince Harry is being paid to front. www.betterup.com/

Allegedly.

MoonfacedMilksop · 06/04/2021 22:43

No hashtags as it’s all on FB.

She’s just posted this so maybe it’s more diet based? Reverse image search just shows it as being a stock image.

YouokHun · 06/04/2021 22:49

Agree with you @RubyViolet. If you have a diagnosis such as Schizophrenia you’ll find it as tough as it ever was to get support or understanding from the meme sharing “MH advocates”. It’s a frustration that MH remains the poor man of healthcare. I am honestly not sure whether the public conversation about MH has helped those who most need it, but it’s sure helping those who want to make a fast buck, MLMs included.

AugmentedToast · 06/04/2021 23:03

Quote from the huns’s original post: “The skin of fresh, unwashed (...) produce contains elevated microorganisms.”

I’m not a scientist, but what the heck is an elevated microorganism? Are there flat microorganisms?

Yeah and sure, if you don’t wash your fruit its skin is bound to be covered in microorganisms - most of which also live in bird poo.

PS: Utility Warehouse is an MLM.

lborgia · 06/04/2021 23:14

@User5747384

Someone on my FB is doing the whole life coach thing. Charging £60 an hour to be a 'listening ear.' It's bonkers.
So your friend wants to charge her friends money to listen to their problems. HmmGrin
IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 06/04/2021 23:33

Im a mental health nurse and "life coaching" irritates my soul.

Literally in the NHS we ensure that every intervention we use is evidence based so that we are practising safely with people.

Life coaching is literally american Jackanory. One near me charges £90 an hour and it riles me that she makes SO much money from "helping peoples mindsets". Something iv dedicated half my life to and will never ever earn anywhere near what she does for spouting clap trap.

tiredmum2468 · 06/04/2021 23:35

@MoonfacedMilksop

I love that
If it's life coaching it'll be a hard sell
She's notoriously bonkers

That's made me 😂 laugh

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 06/04/2021 23:40

@NiceGerbil

Sounds like she's already been at the psychoactives if she's bouncing around her garden thinking she's picking pears from chestnut trees Grin
This made me laugh out loud!Grin
