And it was obviously filmed pre pandemic and probably pre Brexit.

All these entrepreneurs who have given up everything to commit to a new life and business, and yet the viewers know what is to come.

I’m finding it really sad to watch their hopes and dreams, and to know they probably won’t have had a customer for a year, but as recent arrivals in their countries they probably won’t be entitled to a penny of support.

The latest series was filmed during the lockdowns so you see how they coped and in many cases they adapted their lives and businesses so they could still function at a smaller level to keep afloat. It's not all doom and gloom for a lot of them. They have to already have an entrepreneurial spirit to give up their uk lives so you really see that coming forth. Some that were marketing towards the UK market realised that there is actually a massive market right on their own doorsteps so they tapped into that. I really felt for them all and it was great to see them 'survive' 2020 and look forward to a better year this year. I have my fingers crossed for them all and I look forward to next years follow up series.

I feel the same about the couples on A Place in the Sun. Some repeats are only a few years old and they talk blithely about finding a holiday home in Spain that they will eventually retire to, something they've sunk all their savings in.
