Was so excited hair cut and coloured next Monday 12th, hairdresser just rung and said cannot colour hair until after a patch test (she has been doing my hair for 8 years) new guidelines state no colour until 48 hours after a patch test, anyone else having this happen because not seen it on the news etc, totally know she is not lying to me cos she has had to cancel 2 days worth of appointments to facilitate this, and the owner of the salon is a friend of mine, they are totally gutted they were booked solid and looking forward to opening again

When the place that does my eyebrow and eyelash tint reopened after the last lockdown I had to have another patch test even though they've done them for years, but I assumed that was their choice than a legal requirement or something.

HappyThursdays · 05/04/2021 18:57

Yes but I could only get a sodding appointment on May 11th! I have to go in 2 days before at least

I think it's because I haven't been for so long - I missed my hair cut when they reopened briefly as I had booked the day the 2nd lockdown started fgs so last time I had my hair cut was more than a year ago Shock

HappyThursdays · 05/04/2021 18:58

I think you were always meant to have one 24/48 hours beforehand if you're not going regularly and I guess the long gap between cuts means you need to start again?

I had my hair done on Friday. Was the first one in, waiting at the door like a waif waiting to be let in. I was so pleased to see them... brought cupcakes for them (which I didn't make myself), I think that much of them.

So, so happy to be 'done'.

quicklybeingdrivenmad · 05/04/2021 19:08

I took champange and choclates on 4th July when they opened last time got my last appointment just before last lockdown, so I know loads of people are worse off than me just so want my hair doing

@LyingWitchinTheWardrobe so glad for you x

Yes me! Have been having highlights for years but because it’s been over 6 months due to Lockdown , my apt was first week in January I must have a patch test. I have an apt booked 13th April but hairdresser texted me to say I have to go in for a patch test on 10th or postpone apt. Luckily I can go on the 10th!

HappyThursdays · 05/04/2021 19:17

I know what you mean @quicklybeingdrivenmad . I can't wait for mine. It's the first thing I've looked forward to in ages! So I understand how being delayed would get to you! At least you know everyone is in the same boat I guess.

I'm not going to let myself get excited till the day before after my last one got cancelled but I wish you a Happy Haircut Day!

Ffsseriously · 05/04/2021 19:33

It is a requirement of insurance, to patchbtest every 6 months. Also covid can lead to people having an allergic reaction, when they were ok before.
There is talk of patch tests before every treatment cos of covid.

TooMinty · 05/04/2021 19:38

I'm in Scotland and have been patch tested today for a colour on Wednesday. I've been going to that hairdresser for a couple of years and always had the same colour done. But they insisted and I am so happy to get my hair done so I didn't argue.

TooMinty · 05/04/2021 19:39

And yes, they said they had heard that having COVID or the vaccine might make people react differently to colour.

LooseThreads · 05/04/2021 19:41

Yes, mine has messaged saying you must come for a patch test and to 'contact them to arrange one'.

Roominmyhouse · 05/04/2021 19:43

If you have your hair coloured you should always have been having a regular patch test. Even if you always use the same colour and it’s not changed it’s still possible to have a severe reaction. Unfortunately a lot of hairdressers have ignored this for years despite the manufacturers making it clear. I say this as someone who used to work for a hair product company 15 years ago!

Chihuahuacat · 05/04/2021 19:46

Yes mine have said this! It’s to do with insurance - luckily I’m booked in for the 17th so able to nip in on the 12th for one!

Itstheprinciple · 05/04/2021 20:14

My mum's salon has done this but they have had people going for their patch test (done outside) this week so they are ready for appointments next week.

islockdownoveryet · 05/04/2021 20:18

No never had a patch test in my life . I’ve booked in and no patch test has been mentioned.

quicklybeingdrivenmad · 05/04/2021 20:26

Never has a patch test ever before but if it keeps them safe am happy to do so, just gutted extra two days for the grey to go away, hope everyone enjoys their haircuts/ colours x

That's quite bad TBF. They absolutely should not dye anything without one.
WomblesOfWimbledonCommon · 05/04/2021 20:28

My salon do a patch test if it's been 6 months+ since you last had it done.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 05/04/2021 20:31

My hairdresser patch tests if you haven't had colour in 6 months. They sent an email about reopening which said there are concerns about people who have had COVID and how they'll react to colour. I'm in Scotland.

Kimye4eva · 05/04/2021 20:33

Standard practice at any hairdressers I’ve been to. If it’s more than 6 months since last dye you need a patch test.

Mine is “opening” one morning next week for people to pop in for the test who have an appointment booked for the first two days.

Nitgel · 05/04/2021 20:47

Oh I wonder if this will happen to me, I've booked for highlights on 13th and it would have been about 6 months since my last visit. Bugga

And ive booked a day off :( would they be allowed to do the test outside this week I wonder..

MadisonAvenue · 05/04/2021 21:00

The salon I go to posted on their social media that they were contacting all clients booked in for colours in the first few days after reopening to arrange an outdoor patch test before then, by appointment.
They said that it must be done even if you had one in December because testing positive for Covid is seen as a change in medical history and seeing as people could’ve been asymptomatic it’s safer to test everyone.

Horsemad · 05/04/2021 21:05

They're supposed to do a patch test each time before you have a colour.

Mine has said I need to have one, even though they don't do it each time usually - think I have one every 6 months.
